We're all talking dried weight, and so are you, correct?

That's pretty good for being on the forum for 2 days lmao.  I'm gonna hit ya with the..

OF COURSE i'm talking dry weight..

I already posted a pic of one of my smaller monotubs in the picture of the day thread.

This is one of the smaller tubs, 9 or 10 oz's..

and yes, this is all first flush..

yea i kinda think surface area is a factor for your highest yield. 1oz min per myco quart is thrown around a lot, but in shoeboxes at 1:1 as dense as the pics below, they still top little over 2oz at best ime.

I threw out 1-2oz as an easy goal for an average looking tub, not canopy, with 1oz being the minimum.

/e small typ-o fixed.

Can you tell us how you do it?

Ive gotten results like that maybe once.  Ive always chalked it up to strain.  Like, out of the individual strains, I blindly selected a Wayne Gretzky from the MS agar plate.

this is my little trick

Great Isolates and perfect consistent growing environment.  I also pull fresh air direcly from outside, this allow them to get big.  Temperature in grow is ideally a bit cooler than 70F, they grow thicker in cooler environments.

I have a humidifier/s which get cycled on and off -using a cheap 24 hour timer; this lead to extremely high rates of water evaporation off my substrate.  I have 3 large box fans I keep  24/7 too.  Without the humidifier the fans would dry out my tubs very fast.

without the humidifier cycle i get about 7 ounces first flush on same isolates.

highly doubting you have isolates(2 spores mated, single set genetics). they take months of work usually, and most the actual isolates fruited are reported as not very good, as though they do better with multiple strains working together.

I think you probably mean clone, or just a nice even culture. Terminology is different all over the place.

Have you grown a lot of different clones over time and gotten results like that consistently?

This is a problem.  Somebody needs to contact the nomenclature society so we can settle on some language here that defines what we mean more precisely when it comes to isolates.

I propose "isolation"  to mean an average isolation from an MS agar plate.  Some isolation has occurred alright, but there are still multiple individuals in the sample.  If someone wants to talk about a single individual strain, it must have the qualifier "pure" or some equivalent to distinguish it.

So, the results of that isolation give you not a strain, but many strains.  "Strain complex" is a term that comes to mind to describe that.  But we normally save the qualifiers for the more rare class of examples, so maybe 'strain' should be taken as meaning 'a complex of strains', and if one wants to describe an individual, they should use the qualifier 'pure'.

The shroomery TC's and Regulars nearly all acknowledge the same nomenclature. The mushroom community at large butchers terms. Isolate, strain, clone, all already have definitions that're ignored elsewhere.

Some would call what you described a mono culture, although that one is also often debated depending on how you want to interpret it. Most would just call that a decent culture to work with since it's just ms worked until even.

That's fascinating.  So, you have a room where you run a humidifier on an on/off cycle, and a bunch of fans so there's lots of air movement and hence evaporation off the substrate?  Or is any of this stuff hooked up directly to your tubs?

Thank you for your comments.

My operation is run to produce enough shrooms for my own consumption, with the minimum time and $$$ expended. As long as I get my 20-25g per week without having to do too much I am not concerned about the yield per bin, square foot, canopies etc. This being the case I am not interested in upskilling and re-tooling for agar, LC or cloning. Having to fill an extra bin with spawn now and again to get the yields I am after suits my MO better.

Incidentally I did have two or three very productive bins over the last year but, with two house moves, my workflow was heavily disrupted and the yields suffered. At present I have ten G2G jars which all look clean so hopefully will be able to cultivate this strain productively for a few generations.

I hate clones.. i don't use them.

i follow proper technique of thinly spreading spores on petri in a specific criss crossing zig zag pattern.

i transfer early, and seperated each sector that do arise into their own isolated petri dish.  I wouldn't belittle my work by calling it a clone, and simply a "nice even culture" seems off the mark too.

I fruit tons of isolated sectors.  i see the results live and in person, most do get tossed.

I assume that what i have can still carry a title of isolate.. how many disagree?

It's an isolated mushroom culture which gives consistently good result and same yield.  I been doing it this way for years and years..  this process takes me about 3 - 6 months before i decide on the keepers.

Nope, not hooked up to tubs.  It's all in one room.

Adding the humidifier cycle bumped yield by like 50%??

That’ll be first on my list of extras once I get growing down.

really good pics of plates showing zero sectoring is what it would take to believe really, otherwise it's hearsay from someone nobody knows yet.

Here's verums last thread from his pe isolate project. you can see the progress by following back and really looking for sectoring closely on his last few transfers.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25178416

Absolutely plausible you have isolates assuming that's all true and had a decent dilution starting it. It's just not common with newer users and sectoring is can be missed on a nice even culture.
Also again; it seems pretty rare for the isolates that do get made to actually have awesome results, so if you have many successful isolates, i'd lean towards not being true isolates, just nice even cultures.

definetly not as much as 50%

but It all started years ago..

when i used to have infected monotubs, i would remove them from my grow room and fruit them outside..  those that fruited outside got huge as hell..  way bigger and heavier than my inside grow; i assumed it was because of all the fresh air.. mixed in with some unsubstantiated theory that like marijuana plants, more air hitting the plan = heavier stalks.  i said fuck it, i'm going to pump fresh air from outside > inside, then turn up the fan power..  my fans are strong enough to creat a nice little current ontop of the monotub lid if i don't hold it down with a brick.

all this extra air dried out the tubs, after another few years of tweaking and turning knows.. i found the sweet spot by cycling a humidifier.

I believe it I thought the same thing about comparing it to weed.

I just skimmed earlier but I thought it said you went from 7oz to 10 with the humidifier/fan up. How much do you think it increased your yield?
