I've been following bods tek for pouring agar but I dont think he tells you how wide to cut the rolls of cling wrap?
I cut mine about an inch wide, should that be alright?

cut as wide as you need to keep the lids of your dishes securely closed.

Bro, c'mon I'm not retarded lol. I've got 2 sleeves and I wanna pour tonight. I know the point of using the wrap is to keep the lids secure. I dont want to trial and error to figure it out.
They are sitting in the sleeve sterile right now I'm not just gonna open them to figure out something someone here could easily tell me...

Yes, it's a thing. I didn't invent it, but works better for me, since I use glass petris.

bro you asked the question. sometimes you just have to use common sense instead of relying on a tek to tell you insignificant details. but yes, about an inch.

What do you use to cut the cling wrap without ending up with a twisted plastic mess?

bro you asked the question. sometimes you just have to use common sense instead of relying on a tek to tell you insignificant details. but yes, about an inch.
Which is why I asked the community what's worked for them. I wouldn't of asked if I had already tried wrapping plates and I knew what size worked well.
Theres always unforeseeable shit happening in this hobby. And I often fuck something up that I could of avoided of I just asked...nothing wrong with that.
Ya I figured it looked about right, being an inch and all, but i just wanted to make sure. I didnt want to be balls deep in pouring agar and then wrapping my plates just to find out the shit shrunk as the plates cooled or some other fucking crazy ass scenario...
Point is I got questions cuz I've never done it. Simply telling me, do what works to achieve this or that... doesn't help me. In trying to ask cus I want to know what HAS worked for everyone else...

Just grab one of your plates pre-PC and figure out what thickness works for you.
I personally like 1.5" - 2" or so. Depends on how tall your plate is.
This is the best shit to wrap your petris with anyways. You can just forget about everything else now.
GRAFTING TAPE
Ive done the sandwich bag thing too. I don't like it. I want my lids SECURE.

Oh yeah. People are into non-autoclavable petris here.
In that case, replace 'pre-PC' with 'pre-pour'. Maybe that's a drag for you because you'd have to waste one, and expose the stack to non sterile conditions before you have to.

spunky monkey i've only been here a few days but I've already noticed how many drive by questions from people there are, sometimes multiple repeats on the front page at the same time which is why that reaction happens.
not to be a dick but it's in the tek in great detail:
Quote:
bodhisatta said: you may notice I don't use parafilm very often, I prefer saran wrap myself, you can use either or. to use saran wrap take the whole roll out of the carton. and cut the roll into one inch wide mini rolls. use each mini roll to make at least two revolutions around the dish and pull it to snap it off which will make a nice seal. When you unwrap the dishes the saran wrap makes a good surface to put in between two dishes so that they don't slide around on each other as much. Saran wrap is quicker for me, I don't have to pre-prepare cutouts of it like parafilm aside from the original making of the mini rolls. It's also quite a bit less expensive. although parafilm works out to be very cheap per dish anyway.

Your not being a dick, the tek is what I'm following and I obviously read that paragraph (but missed the size) or I wouldn't be asking about cling wrap.
Thanks man no other questions on the subject

Use a very sharp knife and push more through the wrap instead of making a see-saw motion. Gives me a very clean cut without any mess.

I was wondering the same thing... I used a very sharp knife to get through the plastic then a very sharp serrated knife to get through the cardboard tube...

A kitchen knife. They should be sharp enough to go right through without much effort. If not sharpen it till it will.

A kitchen knife will do it?? I need to chop up my first roll also and it’s so finicky about sticking to itself and ripping I was gonna get a hack saw or maybe box cutter.
Good to know.

I tried using a regular knife, just sharpened too. But I could only get through the the saran wrap, once I got to the cardboard it was a lost cause.
I used a serrated knife after I cut all the way around the saran wrap and that worked fine....
So you use a straight edge or serrated?

I used a straight edged chefs knife that hasn’t been sharpened since I bought and was able to push cut through the piece. It’s had daily use for over a year but was still able to do it with some effort. German steel for ya I guess?

Well I guess I've learned something today: I suck at sharpening knives...
Such a nice electric sharpener too. It's made by snap-on.
I'm a hunter Sonia pride myself on this shit and I feel pretty hopeless right now..

Electric sharpeners will not get your blade sharp... there are much better ways of getting a sharp blade... I personally use a waterstone.

whetstones are tough to master but will get your knives sharper than anything else could, just takes a lot of practice.
