Help with ID PLZ
    #26358042 - 12/02/19 09:54 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

I think it's Mycena but can't nail down the species. It grows on decaying wood, gills are notched, and the cap is almost oddly bell shaped and striate. Older ones get flat and color fades. Seems to be hygrophanous.

Mycena maculata? Not sure though.

That was one I keyed out but none of the mushrooms I collected have red spotting.

There are probably dozens, maybe even hundreds of grey-brown Mycena sp....  unless they have a really unique characteristic (like M. epiptergyia's yellow stem) it may be impossible to ID to the species level - in fact all of the species may not even be known until/unless molecular testing has been done until they've all been found....

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.

Yeah I know, was hoping someone on here might ID. I've done ITS sequencing before but I'd rather not pay if I don't have to.

Could be, but it usually has brownish spots in age. M. galericulata is also possible I guess.
