ISO

I need to figure out a way to work with my SAB with out using ISO. I. Getting worried that those fumes are leaking out into the hallways.
I usually swipe down my entire bin with ISO all my plates and tools. I'm starting to worry though that the fumes carry either to the upstairs neighbors or out into the hallways.
How can I prevent this? Thinking about just throwing in the towel with agar all together as I'm beginning to get very paranoid...

soapy water.. i never wipe my sab with alcohol.. never had an issue.
with that said, i have a hard time seeing how iso fumes are a problem.. i use 99% and can't smell anything outside the bathroom where i do lab work.

Ya I might be acting paranoid. Had a sudden overwhelming surge of anxiety today. Just kept worrying that the neighbors could be on to me.
I do my work literally 3 feet from the front door...

you don't need to wipe with ISO or use soapy water
work dry, no wipes, no sprays
but you should still use some ISO towels to wipe your dishes/whatever you need to sanitize

Sounds like your overly paranoid. The smell of iso is the last thing I’d worry about

I still use iso pretty liberally.

You kno, because neighbors smell isopropyl and instantly make the connection that you are growing illegal mushrooms.

I wouldn't think it would be noticeable enough for anyone to pay much attention to it unless you're doing huge sterile sessions or have overly snoopy neighbors. After LONG sterile sessions my whole house smells like iso. I know because my roommate hates it and bitches about it sometimes.
10% bleach water may be a good alternative. Most folks would just think you're cleaning the bathroom if they smelled that.

I dont see the problem with being worried about this kind of thing... doesn't mean I dont wanna do it...
I think a healthy fear of getting caught keeps you from getting caught...

But worrying about iso smell isnt a healthy fear it's just straight up paranoia.
And paranoia gets people doing weird unnecessary shit and ime thats how you get caught.
Anyway... iso isnt illegal so if someone DOES smell it who gives a shit
How can anyone smell iso in the hallways anyway? When I lived in apartments the hallways always smelled of whatever 3rd world dish being created in some neighbors kitchen.

I agree about most of this. It's only because YOU know what you're doing that makes you paranoid. Nobody other than another grower is going to make the association between iso and illegal mycology. Chill.

Ok here is the root of my anxiety... our apartments have storage lockers.. they're just chain linked units side by side. So you can see right through them.
Well theres a bookshelf down there and one of the books my wife put down there was called "organic mushroom cultivation " and she had it facing the front of the unit so everyone that walks past would see a bunch of books facing away on a shelf and one that the binding was facing the front and that was my mushroom growing book...it was probably down there for 2 months before I realized it and took it out of there...
Pretty sure everyone in this place saw that. It was hard not to.
Granted it didnt say cubensis mushroom cultivation or anything, infact it was geared towards gourmet mushrooms, still has me on edge.
I wonder if that was enough to get em all wondering or I'd nobody really gives a fuck why I had a book about growing mushrooms...

You really think ppl notice/made mental notes like that? Imo you give your neighbors too much credit. They dont think like we do
People are dumb use it to your advantage.

Just start cooking fish all the time then they’ll be glad to smell iso.
But seriously cook something that smells while you’re working. I’ll sometimes get bouts of paranoia like this when I’m stoned even though I know it’s totally irrational and it definitely sucks.
And about the book I think the only people who would notice it and think anything of it would be people who want some. Maybe your neighbor is online like hey so I think the guy upstairs is growing shrooms and I want some but I don’t want to look like a drugged out hippy if I’m wrong.

Even if you use iso it really shouldn't be so much as to not only make the room your in smell but it to go into a hallway

i barely use any iso at this point. I fold up 2 paper towels, soak with iso. One for wiping agar dishes, and i set it on the floor of SAB, set my agar dish onto the paper towel.
The 2nd soaked towel I put my scalpel on top of
And that's it
If I need to wipe additional dishes, I just use the first one again.
Have done this for several cycles of dishes / jars now.
