If a true progressive doesn't win the Democratic party, I'll probably go Green Party (which I'm currently a member of).
-------------------- I am in a minority on the shroomery, as I frequently defend the opposing side when they have a point about something or when my side make believes something about them. I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

I voted Green Party twice when Ralph Nader was running.

I like Ralph Nadar but I believe he once swung the election to the GOP.

Outstanding politcal theater; shines a spotlight on the absurdity of promises made during a candidacy. Its actually refreshing to hear him speak.
Torn between him and Cthulu now.

It's a federal pony identification program and you will be required to have your pony with you at all times.
Of course, there aren't enough ponies for everyone but Vermin has an ingenious plan to crack that little nut

Everyone thinks ponies are cute little snuggly animals but I'm here to tell you they're spiteful wretched little creatures.
I'm not ashamed to say a pony kicked my ass and literally (and I mean literally) tried to kill me when I was in the sixth or seventh grade. To achieve my death the horrible little thing was even willing to give up its own life in the process. It was a stare down to the death and I blinked first.
That being said if everyone was a little more like Vermin the world would be a better place!

I'll never forgive Nadar for lampooning the Corvair. The Corvair is arguably one of the best cars Chevy ever produced and Nadar built a career on destroying it. The Corvair used a swing axle suspension just like the VW Beetle, the Beetle of course was sold some 20 million times, and it's the basis for all rear engine Porsche's in existence. It just proves the gullibility of the American public.

My parents had a corvair, maybe 67 or a little older. The automatic shifter was a little slide lever on the dash.

Or was the one on the dash a low/high two speed? I can't recall.
You didn't die in that Corvair did you? I hear they are unsafe at any speed.

The shifter looked like something you would turn the heater on with. I don't remember any handling problems. My father was a safe driver (when sober). I don't think the corvair was unsafe at any speed, but it had to be cheap if my parents bought it. Chevy kind of marketed it as a sports car, which probably wasn't a good idea.

Weird coincidence: My dad just bought a 67 corvair convertible. Dude who owned it restored it to about 70% complete restoration and needed money so he sold it to dad for $6k. It has something like 68K original miles on it.

It used the same rear engine with transaxle and swing axle with trailing arm design as the VW Bug and all early Porsche’s. The Corvair was a bit heavy being a passenger car, so it never achieved much racing success, but it definitely had a decent platform that lended itself to a well balanced handling character. This is why the Porsche platform used the same core design for decades. Nadar made a career on false pretense.

I don't think Nader was lying. It appears the early Corvair did have the problems Nader talked about, but Chevy redesigned it before Nader's book came out.

It’s easily shown that all swing axle rear engine cars had the same issue. It’s a basic reality of that design. Nadar could have picked on VW and Porsche for the same handling character, but he didn’t. The “redesign” is a lie too. Physics means that rear engine cars work the rear tires harder. This ultimately results in oversteer. There’s nothing Chevy or anybody else can do about that. But that sure has hell doesn’t make the car unsafe.

Perhaps those vehicles were less safe as well. Nader helped put two auto-safety bills into law and established the National Traffic Safety Agency.
Car safety has come a long way as a result.

Engineering, material science, and social pressures all are to credit for safety improvements.
Nadar built a career on a false pretense, at least as far as the Corvair is concerned. His book of course touched on other vehicles as well. The most important aspect, IMO, was pedestrian safety.

That the Corvair is more dangerous than any other rear engine swing axle trailing link car. There’s simply nothing wrong with the design, in fact it birthed 20 million cars and nobody cried over it. The best part is that Nadar claimed the car required a more sufficient anti roll bar, thats totally wrong. Swing axle cars need a Z-bar, this provides a “zero roll” function and solves the perceived issues that Nadar incorrectly believed he understood. In summary, he was full of shit in regards to the Corvair.
