Carry a toothbrush with you wherever you go.
Don't let acids like vinegar, sugary foods, tomato sauces, etc. deteriorate your pearly whites.
Floss every night. Use restorative mouth washes to protect against acid wear when you're sleeping. Use a half 3% peroxide and half water to whiten and keep the nasties at bay that aren't killed by the mouthwash.
Change your toothbrush when the bristles are no longer straight.
You can't afford to neglect this!
Use three different types of toothpaste: one cheap kind for getting acids and food particles off directly after eating. One for whitening and one for health (because whitening is not exactly good for you all the time).
Floss and rinse with mouthwash every night. Be sure to wrap the floss around the tooth in order to wipe as much buildup off as you can (increases surface area of floss).
Every six months polish your rough spots with a medium grit polish and a rotary tooth polisher (if you can't go to the dentist). You can find the same tool on Amazon for under $30.
You don't need teeth rotting on you, and if you get your teeth fixed, you don't need them rotting underneath the crowns.

sugar temporarily softens the enamel of your teeth so it's a terrible idea to brush too soon after eating any

I got some hardened tartare around 4 of my front bottom teeth (( I had a few really bad years and didnt brush my teeth pretty much at all. Its just on the outsides like an outline.
I bought some special dental tools to scrape it as best I can. But it goes down under the gum. I think I'm doomed to have to pay a dentist If I spend a few hours I could probably slowly get all the visible stuff off the front and back of the teeth since I have these tools. Is it worth it to do if I cant get under the gums? Should I jab this tool under my gum and scrape? I have a visibly receding gum lime on 2 of the teeth.
Any thoughts Mr. Teeth guy? You seem knowledgeable.

Go to the dentist but tell them you don't want x-rays. This will drastically reduce the cost of your visit. It shouldn't cost more than $60

You're specifically not supposed to brush after acidic foods. Rinse with water if you're that concerned. Otherwise a bunch of this is bad advice.

The longer you allow the acids to stay on your teeth without brushing, the more pitted the enamel will become. The calcium in toothpaste counteracts the acidity of sugars and acids which is why brushing is important in the first place. Brushing your teeth is always a good idea.

Use fluoride-free toothpaste... Unless you enjoy calcifying your pineal gland and lowering your IQ.

Good advice. The dentist is right: These must be done everyday to prevent tooth and gum issues.
