Hello! I have been tasked to look after these fun guys. The (second image) one I can do with as I please, the first (image) I'd just like to keep thriving and alive to return at the end of summer to the person who gifted me them.
Context: I'm in NZ. Summer here. Psilly Season doesnt start until June ish.
So far, I have them out of direct sunlight inside, and have been misting them until they're damp using alkaline water. I've been advised to do this, and pick off any mould that appears.
Apparently a lot of the mycelium has died off, but it looks like its still there! I'd love to get her humming again.
Eventually I'd like to start a jar tek. Is that possible to do when I have mycelium and not spores?
Any suggestions on how to keep this alive much appreciated! I am out today, but will be doing some research and reading tonight. People with more know how than me, what would be your approach?
Bless, and thank you! 🥰

If it was me, I'd probably transfer some mycelium to agar, do a transfer or two to make sure it's not contaminated and then throw it in the refrigerator. That will more or less stop it's growth and keep it alive/viable. Seems like an easier route than trying to keep a tub as healthy mycelium without fruiting it for 7 months.
Or go both routes... try to keep the tub alive without fruiting and then you have a plan B in the fridge that requires no maintenance until you are ready to do whatever you want to do with it.

Thank you thank you. This is a great idea. I will do this I am planning to work out how to get it fruiting, but I suspect it wont be from this tub. I'd have to figure out what the process is to get mycelium (from agar, I like that idea) to a fruiting body.
Cheers for your tips 😁
