Verm turns field capacity poo into goo?

Hi,
I have some nice aged horse poo which is at field capacity. After mixing this up with vermiculite (4qt poo / 1 qt verm) it becomes a clumpy goo. Problem is, now I can not test field capacity by squeezing anymore, bc. it's like a paste that squeezes through my fingers without any drop of water coming out anymore. It look hydrated however, so I don't know if I'm doing something wrong... Should I pasteurize the field capacity poo without vermiculite and add it afterwards?
Thanks for your help!

Paste sounds over capacity Adding verm helps dry it out

FWIW(I dont grow with poo) but it sounds like some real fine vermiculite. Most people add chopped straw or coir to their hpoo to improve the texture, verm isnt as common, but Iād suggest trying to find coarser verm if thats what you wanna do.
That texture sounds Terrible and over FC to me, the best bulk subs are kinda fluffy IMO.
Maybe mix in some chopped straw to get the texture right and then pasteurize?

I was planning to mix Poo/Verm with Coir/Verm/Gypsum.
The ingredients planned: (for 66qt Tote)
CVG: - 450 gr coir - 1.3 qt verm - 1/4 cup gypsum - 2.5 liters water
Poo/Verm: - 4 qt field capacity poo - 1 qt vermiculite
Then pasteurize poo/verm in 5 x 1qt Jars, pasteurize CVG via Bucket Tek and mix together when cooled.
What do you think?

If I have field capacity poo and add vermiculite to it, I would expect the verm to soak up some moisture from the poo, right? Wouldn't that destroy the field capacity, or at least make it harder to see if it's at fc? Should it be at fc before or after adding the verm?

Sounds overly complicated. KISS
Straight coir works pretty good and its super easy. I sometimes add a little verm but 90%,of my tubs were coco and grains and nothing else.
Only reason to use poo is cost IMO. If its not free its not worth it to me.

If read around here, that a more diverse substrate would provide better nutritients. That's why I wanted to add a multitude of stuff. That said, I had great success with just CVG but I thought I could improve the yield by adding poo...

I have 3 big 66qt Totes full of 2 year old horse poo, got it for free (well I gave a tip of 10 Euros)... Initially I was planning to use it mainly for Pan Cyans, but as said, I read on the forum that it's also beneficial for Cubes...

Poo verm should be like a 50/50 ratio, that's where you went wrong, simple.

Ahh ok, I see. So I'd just have to add more verm, like Bod said.
I'll try that then. Thank you!
P.S: What do you think about the idea of mixing CVG with Poo/Verm?

I say try it, but any combo is fine according to your situation.
I personally use coir verm with hot water to hydrate, it's the simplist for me, not having to pasteurize.
If I lived in a horse abundant area I'd likely be pasturizing manure using spawn bags to mix with the coir/verm.
Azur has a few threads on manure I encourage you to check out.

Adding a dry substance can not make something wetter. It can only make it dryer.

That's obvious. I did not say it's wetter, I just said it's not crumbling and dripping anymore. It just got more gluey, pastey, however you want to call it.
In my (uninformed) mind I thought the verm pulls the moisture out of the poo and becomes gluey (maybe due to too fine verm..)

You said it was at field capacity and you added vermiculite and it turned to clumpy goo. I don't think it was at field capacity.

At our high spawn rates the grain we use has more nutrients than can be used up over the course of 7+ flushes. Adding nutrients to the sub is a waste. And if you make it too complicated its harder to motivate to do it IME.

Save it for pan cyans. Cubes do great on coir alone.

Well I took a hand full of it -> no dripping, I squeezed a little -> some drops, I squezed stronger -> more dripping for ~1-2 secs.
After what I've read, that should be field capacity.

Yeah, I guess I'll throw the mixture away and go with CVG again.
Just sad for that vermiculite...need to order more.
Edit: Still the question regarding higher yields with multiple nutrient sources has not been addressed by anyone, yet.

I probably would mix it with chopped straw or coir to get the texture right and pasteurize it then use it.
No need to waste anything just do better next time.
Read the bold text In the quote in my last post I addressed your question.

Even if you were such a good grower you got awesome and predictable results chances are you wouldn't be able to see any difference in yields with different substrate. If you don't get awesome and reliable yields it's the very last place to try to look for some improvement.

I added straw and vermiculite. It get's dryer and dryer but still like a thick dry bread dough.
Maybe some pictures can help:
This is the full view:

When I squeeze it (no matter if hard or soft) it gets squeezed out between my fingers. No drop of water whatsoever:

As you can see, my hand is completely dry after squeezing:

Still it's like a dough. I'm not planning to use it, just out of interest. What would you do? More straw, more verm or more water?
