one crazy ass cactus
    #2635361 - 05/04/04 02:42 AM (12 years, 6 months ago)

bought a few trichocereus cacti from a fred meyer store about a month ago...

notice how much it bends!!  i turn it every day and it will bend that much every day!!  i have 2 other ones just like it, and they dont bend nearly as much... the window sill they sit in isnt even a direct south sunlight either... how normal is this much bending?

another interesting note about this little guy is that he has the most pups growing on it compared to the other two.

just wondering what's up with this cactus... if i did something wrong in not giving it enough support, or if its just genetics... and if this bending is good for it, b/c of the number of pups

thanks,
:sun:

no, not peruvians.  just thought they were purdy!

edit:  actually i'm not sure what they are, only know they're trichs, if someone thinks they could id them I'll get a close-up.

but i am still more interested in what's going on with this guy.

sure, here ya are...
this is the base of the bending one, showing three of it's four pups.

this is one of the two straight standing ones and a couple of its pups

and finally the end of the bent cactus

all three of these came from the same original pot and have been treated the same since the transplant.
well that's all my upload space for the day, hope you enjoy.
would you mind elaborating a bit more on what the "monstrose" thing is?
and if there's anything specific i need to get in the pictures just ask.
thanks
Psily

trichs have a wide array of looks but by the ribs that appear and disappear in your twisted one i'd guess it sure is a monstrose individual! congrats! hope the pups come out in the same way! =)
as for what trichs it might be, it's hard to know so early but if i had to guess one i'd say peruvianus/cuzcoensis. anyways, i could be roundly wrong and it be a bridgesii.  so i won't guess what it is...
they look a little strssed but they're nice cacti anyways!
pump them with some nutes, they'll like it! both foliar and in the roots! NPK 15-15-15 or 20-20-20 for the lazier people... =)

okay... well they're def. not peruvians...

but my questions are still unanswered: what do you mean by "monstrose?"

why is that one cacti such a bender, and not the others--who are exactly like it, came from the same pot, and repotted exactly the same??

edit: they may be peruvians, i didnt realize they were sold in retail stores, i dont know enough about cacti to say definitely one way or another

the monstrose cactus are genetically different from their 'regular' brothers, they grow in 'monstrous' looking patterns, like loosing and gaining ribs constantly or crested forms.
the monstrose ones are more vintage and for looks (they're rare), than for eating...
