Starting to lose my hair, think I should try a hair loss prevention product?
    #26352814 - 11/29/19 08:43 PM (4 years, 1 month ago)

You see those ads for keeps.com, thinking about giving it a shot. Anybody have any recommendations?

Not the end of the world if I go bald, been paying more attention to bald men and they look fine. still, it'd be nice to keep it

I tried rogaine and didn't see any results much in a month or two.

There are currently only three known treatments supported by science.
Minoxidil (rogaine), propecia (a pill) and transplants.
All come with their own minor or major side effects, costs and risk, but it’s worth noting that nothing else has any solid scientific backing behind it, and even then the supporting science says that Minoxidil and propecia only work for some men and in varying degrees.

Transplants work great, rogaine helps a little and it even help with a better beard.

Stay away to propecia, it lowers DHT and it can turn bad for your manhood. My cousin now is bald and happy after suffering for years ED caused by rekt dht

Go bald and stay bald. It is likely over time one stops giving a shit.

I've tried Minoxidil, but it took several months before I noticed much difference. The generic is available at Target for pretty cheap so it wasn't a huge cost for 3 or 4 bottles. I've just started trying it on the beard.

I feel a little silly now looking in the mirror. I barely lost any hairline at all and it seems to have stopped for the time being at least. Kinda 'panicked' thinking it would progress a bit faster

Still appreciate the answers of course and I may try some stuff later down the road. I'm also prepared to just accept it if it happens but hey might as well try to hold on to it for a little while

Getting older is mostly wonderful but with some lame symptoms. I've always been able to eat anything I wanted without ever gaining a pound but now I'm getting some fat deposits on my tits all of a sudden. Its a pain because my job makes my wrists rather sore so I can't really do pushups or pullups. Non sequitur you say? I'm rollin and ramblin

I've read bad stuff about Propecia and also some about Minoxidil. There seem to be people who lost their libido and have erectyle dysfunction even after quitting Propecia for years. So I'd really suggest you research it thoroughly before consuming it.

With regards to hair transplants I know that it should only be done if you are sure that the hair loss is in a "finished state" and will not go on further. Because if you do the transplant and the other hair goes on falling out, you look horrible. I have a neighbour that has this problem. It looks like he has a big toothbrush on his head.

Better go to the gym, get a nice physique (Bruce Willis, Jason Statham like) and keep your head high with or without hair.

Just my 2ct

Confidence goes a lot further than a full head of hair ever will.  You can't count on your looks, so develop things elsewhere that make you proud.  Sure it might feel nice to some part of you, but if you are remembered for your hair you fucked up.

If you have great problems with your hair-loss or self-esteem in general (talking to women/men, being introvert, ....) I can highly recommend this book:

https://www.amazon.com/-/de/dp/0553374397/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_de_DE=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=6+pillars+of+self+esteem&qid=1579357357&sr=8-1

If you work through it (and it can take months), I bet, that you won't have any problems with your hair or yourself anymore.

I started losing my hair right around 19 years old.  I used to rock the, "duck ass" look and loved it.  The front of my hair started thinning really bad and I didn't have much hair to flip up in the front.  There came a point where I threw in the towel and just started shaving it.

I was only self conscious about it when it was grown out because of how horrible it looked.  Now I prefer the bald look.  If someone was able to give me a shot that would give me a full head of hair again I'd turn it down.  Shaving my head (with an old timey safety razor) in the shower has become an every-three-days ritual for me and I quite enjoy it.

It really comes down to what makes you feel better about yourself.  I found it extremely liberating to just go bald.  If you decide to go bald, these items are your best friends:

The Razor
The blades
The gel

The razor handle has a nice weight to it, the blades are STUPID sharp and stupid cheap, and the shaving gel is the perfect consistency (I love the fragrance too).  Even if you don't use it to shave your head it's excellent for the face.

Not yet, Newbie. It's still ok. Maybe next year or so...

But yeah, the day will come. Before flipping longer hair over bald spots, I'd also rather cut it down completely. Windy weather can kick in anytime...

I use one of those razors for shaving (my face), but the head? I think I'd make a massacre in the shower ...and overlook some isles of hair on the back of the head.

Anyway, I think it's just the first few weeks until you get used to being bald and then it becomes normal. I'd never take hormones (propecia) or anything to slow down the hair-loss.

Yeah that's happened a few times.  The right shave medium seems to be key.  I've used some cheap shit before and the [new] blade skidded across my scalp on the first swipe and of course it's so sharp the pain didn't come right away but a split second later it was menthol/stinging/hot water/blood.  It's not a ton of blood but holy shit do head wounds bleed for a while.

 Yeah, I believe it. Also the angle of the blade is important. It took me some time to figure it out for my face. Behind the back of the head, sounds really complicated. But I guess one can learn to do it eventually.

Still, I'm more the 1-3mm guy (I think)...when the time comes.

I've never had a problem with the back of my head, in fact that's the quickest part of the shave for some reason.  I guess it's muscle memory.  When I was fat and the back of my neck had that pack of hot dogs thing going on it was a bit more challenging.

A lot of people are loosing hair these days due to stress, a lot people also wear glasses.

Please don't be worried, just detach yourself from this.

- There is a method that works for hair loss, it is yoga - yoga means union with your highest being or the Divine being. It involves understanding all your parts, hair loss is a sign of your cells not functioning in that area, it is a symptom of some underlying imbalance. Don't believe in the doctors they are themselves bald, and have no answer. Only solution is to do some yoga and find out what that imbalance is and put a harmonising force in that area - it could be an emotional or mental disorder or a purely physical one, either way you have to interrogate.

- But it doesn't matter even if you don't regrow, sometimes the skin/hair doesn't regrow easily but the inner disorder can still be fixed, which is what matters.

Peace
