Quick 3 min video on the higher-self, the illusory-self, desire/suffering, love and bliss
-------------------- Love is from the infinite, and will remain until eternity. The seeker of love escapes the chains of birth and death. Tomorrow, when resurrection comes, The heart that is not in love will fail the test. ~ Rumi The day we start giving Love instead of seeking Love, we will have re-written our whole destiny. ~ Swami Chinmayanada Saraswatir

Since we were all created in the image of God, we all have this ability to glimpse that transcendant holiness that rises so far above and beyond the material things of flesh and earth. Even in darkness, we know it is there, and can feel the edges of the truth.. feel a reality calling us outside of ourselves.... And yet we are here, trapped in a world of evil and decay and death.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
...
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
- Romans Ch. 8
Jesus is the light, and the beginning of all creation. He quite literally IS that truth of the higher self. 2,000 years ago He came down into the flesh and earth to sacrifice Himself for us, and to forge a pathway for us out of death and back to God, for any who will follow Him. Jesus is the Way.
And He is there, waiting with his arms opened up to you, to give you all things, if you only ask.
-------------------- "Who do you say that I am?" - Jesus quoted in the Gospel of Matthew

You're not far off. I've always asserted that what we label the "sub" conscious is actually the PRIMARY level from which its effects are made manifest in this reality. It supersedes waking consciousness in priority, hence shifts in habit are most easily done when they are attacked at the subconscious level. Our waking level consciousness is the real SECONDARY or SUB level. Everything begins and ends within you, PRIMARILY! .

I'm inclined to agree with that. The issue is how do we connect with the subconscious/unconscious mind. It's sending us signals all the time, directing our lives, because it wants us to figure out how to connect and ultimately unify with it

Nice clip describing something I haven't experienced but faithfully believe is possible to experience.
now, is the higher conciousness material? they say the atman overwraps the material, that it encloses it and penetrates it, correct? it's part of the brain (material) but outside thought (immatrial)?
God bless you saved7, honestly that scripture touched my heart, I needed the Godsmack tonight! you probally be critisized for quoting scripture all the time like I have been in my other member name back in the day, you'll expand, just give it time.
In a yoga book I heard the mind divided in 4 portions, 1: Higher Mind (seat of intuition), 2: Superconsciousness, 3: Conscious Mind (seat of intellect), 4: Subconscious Mind (seat of instinct)
Quote:
1: The subconcious, instinctive, or automatic mind. it controls the involuntary functions of the body; it is the seat of lower emotions and animal instinct, and it also carries on the automatic functions of daily activities.
2: Concious mind or intellect. intellect can control and guide the Subconcious and is the basic requisite for the ego or "I" consciousness. Reasoning is the function of the intellect.
3: Superconscious mind, or higher mind. the function of this mind, which is above intellect, is to achieve intuition and higher consciousness. Beyond these three levels of the mind is pure consciousness known as spirit, soul, or self, which is formless, timeless, changeless, and infinite in its nature.
-Swami Vishnu-devananda, the complete illustrated book of yoga.
^^^just some food for thought!
