That's what my tub looks like now but all over. I'm still waiting for any pins, I'm on the eighth day now since spawning but nothing. When I shine a light over the mycelium I can see it glistening crystal like, it has very fine mist beads of moisture so I'm sure my surface conditions are good. I don't know what to do, I'm thinking about maybe tomorrow I should try give it a misting? I don't know, I've been letting it sit to and do it's thing, but I'm not seeing any results I feel like after no pins

Patience man, if your surface looks like this one its good... I wouldn't mist it...

Why would it be knotting up tho? Its probably only 75-80%
I heard that can be a sign its contaminated...

Its at 100% That's the thick top layer of coir that isn't fully colonized, big deal

I assumed that it was important for the everything to be 100%, especially @ the pseudo casing layer or surface...
So having that open coir like this wont make it prone to contamination?

Coir is never prone to contamination.
Only wack/dirty/impure batches of coir will allow spores of any kind to germinate. Its an industial bi product so quality control isnt all that tight. But even so I used to leave a cooler full of it for weeks and only once did it every grow anything and it was the same cobweb I saw in ny compost pile a few days prior that contaminated it. I re-cooked it in oven bags and used it with no issues. I only gave up on the coir cooler when a colony of ants moved in.
Some strains fruit quicker that others, this tub looks healthier that the other one you were worried about
Fyi the mycelium is gonna eat that aluminum tray eventually.

If coir were prone to contamination it would make a terrible reptile bedding
Also colonization conditions don't protect from contamination idk why people think that fruiting conditions would be any different from a contamination standpoint. You made the tub in open air in the first place
You can do fruiting conditions the entire time

I like the big blocks like for soil, way cheaper but definitely have a little more random shit in them than the reptile bedding ones and ground a little coarser. I live it a ganja farming area so theyre also easier to come by.

I'm not asking because I'm afraid that fruiting conditions would expose it to tams...just thought having uncolonized sub in general could be a vector..
I didn't do anything different for colonization then I did with fruiting conditions... same temps same amount of fae....

I'm curious, what would you do with it if it was a little contaminated? I've had contaminated spawn still give me mushrooms.
