About pastorization....
    #26351669 - 11/29/19 09:26 AM (4 years, 1 month ago)

I usually pastorize the sub and the coir for  2 hours at 70 celthius.
I am asking if this process kills the mold spores ( thrico spores ) and other mushrooms spores ...
For example , if before to pastorize my sub , i leave it in a room full of thricoderma with green walls and green contamination everywhere , and after i pastorize that sub for 2 hours at 70 celthius , how will be my sub? Spores will die in the pastorization process? If yes , at which temperature are they dying?
What about other spores ?
Thanks

I pasteurize at 140F - 170F range for 1 hour. I think you might be pasteurizing for too long. We pasteurize to kill off a range of microbes that compete with our cultures, but not the microbes that assist in supplying nutrients. At 2 hours I suspect you are killing off beneficial microbes as well as the ones you want to kill.

Have you seen people saying that you can steam cook in a stock pot if you don't have a pressure cooker? While I believe this method is flawed as it leaves a possibility of contamination hiding in your jars, it sounds like what you are describing for your pasteurization technique.

If you have a room full of colonized contaminates I suggest you start with cleaning and a lot of it.

I always think are 2 hours pastorization . Are you sure 1 hour is fine?
The room full of mold was just a example. I live in the very hot and humid tropics and during the rainy season mold is everywhere . I am going pretty good but i have a contamination rate higher than you . As many people said me many times , the main problem could be the SAB work and i am doing lots of practice to get better ...
But i wanted to ask about pastorization because my could be easily contaminated from mold before to be pastorized , because mold is everywhere...

No man .... i am sorry to say , but is not possible . I live in central america and in a very retired area. Impossible to buy coir and vermiculite . Is not for sale in this country.
I use straw 65%, 20% HP, 15% earth worm hummus ....i want to try to use Straw only to make it simple . Do you think will work ?
Recently i Improve alot adding  a casing done with coco coir hand made by me. Need long time to make it starting from coconuts, so for casing is fine but i cannot use as sub because is just to labour intense.
