alcohol withdrawal

let me preface this by saying that i am an alcoholic. a very heavy drinker. several drinks every night.
i drank a fifth of 100proof bourbon on saturday night. i woke up feeling like shit and told myself to stop drinking. i never had any withdrawal symptoms in the past when taking a few days off...
well.. not this time.
by monday i thought i was coming down with the flu because a lot of people at my job are out sick so i thought i caught something.. this morning i awoke to complete delirium and confusion. i was hardly able to stand up. i managed to get up and use the restroom once or twice, but in doing so i thought i was going to collapse to the floor. i felt death coming. it was scary.
i staggered to my kitchen and poured a shot of vodka.. that seemed to help with my panic attack, but i was still very confused and having mild hallucinations. nothing vivid, they were more like "situations" that i was inventing in my mind.. and my mind was going very fast. only when i opened my eyes that i could kind of "come out of it".
after laying in bed, confused and damn near delirious, i found enough strength to walk to the store and buy a few beers. im now sipping on one as i write this. fuck. that was scary.

U gotta be careful man. My gf gets the shakes n stuff u mentioned if she doesn’t have like 4-5 over the course of the day. Best way to taper is drink a consistent amount of beer and lower every day. She used to drink like 20/day but I helped get her down

Been there unfortunately. I'm about to have 3 months sobriety after years of heavy drinking daily (750ml liquor/4 bottles wine kinda drinking, finishing a bottle before getting out of bed). What's interesting is some of my worst withdrawals came from quitting even when my intake was 1 or 2 bottles a day. My point is, once the body is used to any constant amount of alcohol and you start reducing it fast or quit cold Turkey you can get really sick. I tried tapering down to 3 beers a day earlier this year and had to go to the ER because my body couldn't keep anything down, even alcohol at that point. I've never felt so physically ill
No matter what point you're at, you can always quit drinking. AA meeting helped me, I havent been back since my second week but it's my backbone even though I don't talk or share in meetings much.
I really wish you the best! You've got this. Just realize you'll have another morning like this, its inevitable even if it's rare. I just got to the point were I couldn't stand feeling how much I was killing my body and mind

I called them ‘scenarios’ and they would rapid fire. Sort of dream scenarios and I would dream what seemed like a month in an hour or so. It became almost enjoyable in a bad sort of way.
You gotta quit drinking man. This is where you’re going to find your bottom and discover just how much torture you can endure. The name of the game is to settle on a limit of torture before you hit the point of death. It’s just a matter of what exactly scares you enough to not make going for a drink an option..

Those are like a beginning stage of the lucid nightmares associated with acute alcohol wd. You can actually get stuck in them and experience fully lucid dream scenarios which would be cool except for the fact it’s always nightmare situations. Take it as a sign that it’s time to back off. That sort of wd is going to be triggered more easily with less drinking as time goes on for you. There’s no sort of ‘reset’ with abstinence, your brain keeps a memory of it and you pick up right where you left off...

I used to drink 5ths of various kinds of alcohol as a teenager whenever it was party time. Always cheap booze... the worst night was a fifth of tequila. Was never a regular alcoholic tho, not sure how I survived all those nights.

An alcoholic should expect their life span to be about 50. It’s the worst addiction possible. Alcohol destroys every part of your body
