My New Hood 2

Finished (for now) with my Laminar Flow Hood. Started with two blowers that were salvaged from furnace replacements. Wasn't sure which to use but started with the 1/3 HP. This has 4 different speed settings. If I have to upgrade, I can put in the 3/4 HP with a few modifications. Purchased the HEPA filter new from Ebay, 22"x44". Using two 14x25 prefilters, one super cheap one and another nice one. This isn't very detailed, and I did a poor job documented every step, but here it is;
ISO View:

Cutouts for two pieces of 4x8, 15/32" Plywood.

Instead of using 3/4" plywood, I used the 1/2" and reinforced with 2x3's. I used the 1/2" (15/32") mid grade plywood. Not the roofing plywood, that one is crap and you will regret it, use the one meant for projects.

And the final setup (not final location)

I haven't measured my final flow rate, but when I do, I'll update this post. I ran the "lighter test", as I read in another forum, and it looks good....
UPDATE: Flow rate (unofficial) measured at 250 f/m.
Cost Breakdown: HEPA Filter (99.99% for 0.3 Ξm, with 1" h20 drop at 1600 cfm) => $280 delivered Hardware => $120 4 way switch => $10 from Amazon I already had the varnish and table, the blowers were free. I recommend contacting a local A/C company for salvaged blower units. These guys get rid of them for the price of scrap metal.
Wish me luck! Plan on starting with Agar soon.

Nice work. When I was younger I made subwoofer boxes out of fiberglass.

I like the offset look, clever way to make with less seams too,

Damn! This looks very nice. You should make a tek out of this by putting all the dimensions and step by step "How to" Just saying.

Lighter is a piece of crap, so I ordered a low cost Anemometer from Amazon.

I worry your blower's motor may overheat in the box it's pretty snug. The motor itself has a fan that pulls air over the windings.
Low cost anemometers usually do poor jobs measuring slow speeds like the 90-120fps of a hood.

I'm honored to receive your feedback! The blower pic is a bit deceiving, the filter rim is wide and makes the cavity looks very small. There's about 3" of clearance on each side of the blower. I'm keeping an eye on it though, and did think to put extra intakes if it was a problem. I received my anemometer and measured the speed at 250 f/m. I know this is more than double what it should be, but I'll give it a try for now. If causes me problems, I have a speed controller that may help. I may also borrow the calibrated anemometer from work to double check before I make mods. I did 20 plates of agar last Friday and spores are growing without contamination so far. The control plates are clean so far!

Accepted range is anywhere from 90-300 fps. Slower is better at reducing downflow turbulence, but 250 should be fine, you can choke down the intake or throw a few more prefilters to get it down a little.

 Id choke the intake before using a speed controller
