steer me in the right direction?

ok first off I know the information I am seeking can be found throughout the site....im just having great difficulty navigating to it...ive spent countless hours/months on here and still have major question marks...please excuse my illiteracy....anywhos...
my first grew consisted of me buying pre-sterilized grain bags. I had great success...but upon re-ordering from the same vendor I received shit product (and reading similar info on here regarding purchasing pre-sterilized grain)
I learned quickly about agar being the way to go so I went with Pastys easy agar tek and both times I tried the entire batch contaminated despite being overly cautious with sterile technique. I dont think with my current skill level that I want to tackle any other agar teks. I feel I ordered syringes from a trusted vendor (didn't read rules before posting). Not sure if I should give it another go with another syringe...it was also said that I could/should swab from a print vs using a syringe
I own a pressure cooker. My question is how can I cultivate mushrooms without going through the agar process. I really dont want to do pf cakes fyi. Can i inject directly to quart jars with modified lids? any suggestions and teks are appreciated. I hope to revisit agar after a few harvests. I love Bod’s unmodified tubs and can eyeball mushroom moisture level and lead them to a 4th flush but I just need preliminaries to establish my mycelium base

Just go to agar. Once you start agar it's actually the most fun part of the hobby. Spores to anything is a dice roll.

That's tough because you're BEST options with syringes are PF Tek or agar... I think most people will tell you the same thing but wait for others to chime in. My first grow was syringes > rye bags > bulk coco/verm so it can be done. Why don't you want to make pf cakes? I think it's an awesome beginner TEK.
Bod always hooks it up, I learned a ton from his posts. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=24981864&page=0&vc=1#24981864 PF Tek

IMO agar is much easier than grain jars, tubs, etc. & pretty fun, too. It doesn't require much skill or feel for anything, honestly. There was something wrong when you tried, probably a single thing that you overlooked (like bad containers/filters) or couldn't have helped anyway (contaminated syringe/print?).
Consider giving it another try. I started with petris and media bottles and just followed the instructions in bod's agar TEK. It honestly seems much simpler than no-pour and you can experiment and make as many extra plates as you wish for additional safety (you can easily make enough agar for 80 plates in a PC cycle with 4 media bottles).

Why do you seem so anti pf tek? I had a lot of fun and grew a lot of mushrooms for nearly a year with brf cakes before I bought a pc and started agar and grains. Pf Tek is a great way to go when you're getting started. That said, agar and grain isn't really any more difficult than pf, and the results are even more amazing!

just go with agar to start. It will teach you what healthy myc looks like while you practice your sterile tek. Once you can get a jar of grains to colonize without contams you will have more mushies than you know what to do with.

You can clean up contaminated agar though. Just keep transferring from the cleanest looking areas.

Agar for sure. If you can make ramen noodles you can make agar. It does have a learning curve but you get super powers.
If you MUST use syringes make big pf cakes and crumble to bulk. This way you get good result from your syringe and the benefits of bulk yeilds. Starting agar with fresh tissue can be a little more straight forward than germinating spores esp if your not using real agar or you're just getting started. Plus now you got clones;-}>
With grains I always avoided wheat/rye berries bc wbs was easier to find but now that I've tried wheat berries I don't think there is an easier grain to get perfect.
I haven't tried the pasty plate Tek but I've scrolled through it and I don't think agar is any harder. Using the right stuff for the job saves hours of messing with alternatives and the stuff is so cheap. I went to my local Asian food place and bought all the kinds of agar they have. Found some boxes of agar powder with nutes already in it for a couple bucks. These are the brands I'm reviewing for a journal thread later.

I have had really good luck in the past with mycelium water.
I just put clean mycelium from my substrate straight in some sterile water. I shake it from time to time and watch it grow. I could probably make enough of this water to noc up a thousand PF jars in 7 to 10 days.
No spores. No agar. You can use it in a syringe to noc up jars or bags, or , my personal favorite. Put in a spray bottle and spray it all over a substrate.

Pouring agar is much easier than it looks. I find it easier than wrapping dozens of pasty plates in foil. Itll do you no harm to find out where you're going wrong with your sterile technique, and its cheaper and less disappointing to figure it out with agar plates than with grain jars! I often do a half-batch of agar so Im not making a ton of plates. 200ml will make 10-20 petris depending on size.
No-one can stop you doing spores to grain if you really want to. Some people seem to have success with it, but expect more losses to contamination. Especially if so far your agar work is all contaminated. Maybe knock up a few jars with spores if you must, but get started with agar straight away so you've got something clean to work with for the next batch.

I bought some fresh containers and am gonna give it another go.......but I am able to inject spores directly into grain jars through my modified lids? I’ve got some grain I sterilized a week ago that was intended for my agar batch that contaminated...

Yeah, just lift the lid a little. Don’t let the needle touch the mouth of the jar though.

Syringe to quart of grain or seeds should work fine. Maybe get a little bacteria but nothing that will kill the grow. Just be sure to iso the lid and needle first and after. Pf tek might be safer but it’s just so slow without being able to shake.
I’ve done 12 shoeboxes now ms to wbs with no problems until at least one flush was done, up to four. What lid set up do you have? I did the 1/4 or 1/3 inch hole in the middle with a circle of tyvek on top then squeezed silicon onto the tyvek over the hole for a SHIP. It’s the only way I’ve done it but it’s been great so far.
