I basically just followed this video that a couple of my friends had success with.
I realize most people on here think this style wont work(only realize that after having purchased the materials and finding this site later)
What would be the suggestion to make this tub work out? I had contacted a local shop for coir yesterday but no response.

Ya that guy kinda miss spoke you could probally get away with just coir but not just vermiculite. If i was you i would try an get my hands on a block of coir and pasturize that alone like in the link i sent then after its cooled down mix in your grain verm mix you already have.

You have a petsmart or petco around anywhere that would have reptile supplies is going to have coir otherwise amazon but then you have to wait for it to ship

Plenty of petfood places in the area, but also several growshops that may have it. I will call tomorrow and see what I can find. Once I've prepared the coir should I break up what I have in the tub and mix the coir in, or use it as a casing?

Just remember you already mixed verm into your grain so skip that when you pasturize your coir and do not pasturize your grainverm with your coir otherwise you would deff kill your mycelium best of luck hope it all works out for you just make sure you do your homework and really try and get a grasp on what your doing shit happens so dont feel bad

Thanks, was able to pick up coir today and currently pasteurizing it. Hoping I can salvage something! Live and learn, I was doing this for fun anyways, not worried about trial & error.

So I got the coir mixed in after pasteurizing, it colonized pretty well and it seems like it's going well, but I dont really know what to look for. Here are a couple photos I took with the macro lens. Not sure if this is "cobweb" that is described in the contam section

Im glad to see your projects still chugging along zg you will have some fruits for you labor real soon congrats knock on wood ive never had any issues with contams and through reading other peoples problems it easy to get stressed out especially when its your first go and you have all this time invested. That said ime mushies are pretty resiliant and as long as you start out with clean grains and pasturized substrate once its colonized its pretty hard to screw up it can deffiantly happen but its not likely at this point.

Damn nice recovery, that pinset looks really good.
Just wait for two days from now, the first grow I did I had to pull up pictures from the day before to make sure I wasnβt crazy and they really doubled in size overnight.
Do you know what kind they are?

Definitely bookmarking this one. It seems like you did a fairly good job of saving this grow. Also, you've done some cool science we can all sort of learn from in some way... Hehe!
I've been a bit in-active for a while....but I really dig this!

The guy is just trying to sell his grain bags to a small percentage of people who watch that video.
Always PC/make your own stuff if you want a higher grow success rate and to get better at your shroom skillz.
As for the ease of doing a shoebox check out this tek if you want something suuuuuuuper simple: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26369384
