Lol my friend from Pakistan says it’s like camping when he goes there. It’s shit. Sadly it takes a lot of money to live in the woods in a dope spot..

I can only imagine. Feel like the cities are getting so cramped.

Ya like I said the initial investment is high but then you just pay land tax which is pretty dope.

My dream is to do that but bust out the shovels and build a downhill ramp to coast the RV into that's deep enough to bury the whole RV. Then theres just a ladder/hatch (most likely the bathroom ventilation bit) to get in and out of my hermit paradise.

From there I'll tunnel out the "front door" to make "additions" to my crib. Including my underground algae fed septic system.

From there you camo in your electricity/water collection systems and for the rest of your life go "lol what house? And pay strictly land taxes

Moisture, mold, insects, pressure from the earth itself, nowhere for the rain to go, lack of fresh air / oxygen, your tunnels collapsing-  there are so many reasons why this wouldn’t work.

I'd like to live off grid, but in a civilized "amazon still delivers packages" kind of way. With a grocery store within driving distance, maybe a major city a few hours away. Electricity and internet are a must.

Still, I have huge admiration for those crazy people who live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska with no amenities at all.

Well add some tips on how you would do it or tell me why offgrid is impossible. You cant publicly live off grid because they price you out of existence. You have to kinda hide it like I was saying.

Shipping containers?

Also what if I layed a few feet of  concrete or something cheaper around the RV excluding the areas I wanted to expand upon?

I ve lived of grid a few times for a couple of years more or less in and around the city.  You make it as hardcore as u want it or how u define off grid.
At first I still used to charge batteries at friends. Then I lived with friends who had a genny then I got some solar panels and batteries.  Still I used the laundry place or friends laundry machine, friends workshops for using heavy machinery for making /fixing shit. So did I really live of grid?

my brother and I know of a cabin near dick's lake in Tahoe wilderness, it is not functional though.  feeling secure enough to run an electric cabin would be dope

I'm currently living off the grid in Hawaii. We have a shit ton of rain so water is no issue. With solar panels and a generator you can basically have all the modern amenities you want (except perhaps washer/dryer/dishwasher, unless you have a shit ton of panels and or a good size generator; but really it's kind of overkill) you can have a fridge, internet, running water (via water catchment and a water pump)

you can get land here in Hawaii for $5-25K depending on how much you want; if you want to buy a property that already has been partially cleared with a cabin for about $50k.

if you're really interested in going off grid look into the Big Island of Hawaii

Fun Fact: McKenna's last years of his life was spent on his property here on the Big Island of Hawaii where he grew shit ton shrooms and all kinds of other psychoactive plants. :tongue2:

You could literally be off the power grid and have cellular access. But I get what you’re saying. I think of it as living outside the economy but technically that’s not how the “grid” is defined. I respect anyone who does anything off the beaten path though. I just work a shit job and live in a crappy apartment.

Instead of buying land and a cabin, I'll buy the whole world for even cheaper. I'm eventually going to sell everything I have, and set put to ride the globe on my motorcycle with a tent and some subsitive supplies. Yes, it's a thing that people legitimatly do. You save as much cash as possible, get your bike as perfect as possible and set out for as long as you want. 1 week, 6 weeks, 6 months, 1 year, 10 years, or life. Work on the road, live on less than $600 -$1k per month, travel the most amazing lands, have the best travel experience possible as a human being.

I was more or less off grid when I was homeless for a few months. All you have to do is live in your car. Boom!

It's not too glorious though, especially if you have a full time job like I did. After a while the excuses about why you're disheveled and why your car is seemingly full of your possessions start to add up and your coworkers figure it out.

One of the better experiences was when I set my tent up semi permanently and was given access to the showers at my job (my boss was a pretty understanding dude and still a friend to this day). As a result, I had a stable place of "residence," but more importantly I could brush my teeth, get showered, get my clothes cleaned up. It still wasn't exactly a place I could bring a girl back to though.

Those were good times for the most part, but certainly a hard stage of life. Luckily I didn't have any children or any real responsibilities beyond paying my bills and getting back on track. When I finally got an apartment my parents gifted me a king size bed. That was the end of roughing it for me. I have no desire to sleep on somebodies couch, or floor, or beg for some yard space to set my tent up. I own a home now, one in the city. I'll be sticking in the city until retirement, maybe for life.
