Miracle gro substrate

Hey guys. So after finding a really good deal on a number of bags of miracle gro, I decided to do some experimenting.
With the leftovers of some spawn, I mixed it with miracle gro in a Tupperware to see what would happen. Here is the result so far

Is it just potting soil or what? How did you prep it? Or did you just mix the spawn in as is?

No prep. WBS spawn mixed with miracle gro potting soil straight. i gave it a good spraying then closed the lid. I open it up once a day to look, and I think ive only sprayed it once in the week or so since spawning.
It's probably not the best sub because of water retention, I think. Coir and Verm hold way more water. This does have wood in it.
Also it might have trich or watever else. You know what they say, with clean spawn anything is possible. Also the spawn was from this batch of WBS https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26269413/page/2

The sack of Miracle Gro potting soil that I used for house plants last year had a shitload of fungus gnats hatch out of it.

I’ve used potting soil as sub a bunch of times and it totally works fine but it’s important to heat treat it before use for this reason.

pretty sure im chucking this little brick/tray thing now.
I was surprised at how many flushes it pushed out, along with no contamination. Keep in mind the brick of sub is not much bigger than my fist, and I haven't ever calculated B.E. or even attempted, but im fairly certain that this is good b.e., compared to my normal shoeboxes that I MIGHT keep until the third flush.
Im wondering if perhaps the miracle gro nutrients like potassium nitrogen and such played any part in the grow. I suppose people infatuated with "organic" would not approve of this, but I would probably eat them if they were growing from toxic waste.

I haven’t really noticed much difference in yields between my soil grows and my coir grows when using the same culture and containers/conditions for fruiting. My bag of soil lives out in the garage where the gnats can party in it and their eggs, so I heat treat it, and it has chunks of bark and perlite in it which I like to sift out, so it’s more work to prep, but that’s really the main difference IME.
I do really like the espresso grind texture that the soil gets after sifting.

Haha toxic waste like..... Shit I myself say miracle gro is at least one step above crapxD its definetly interesting. And likely easier to come across for most, might just need to label check for anything actually toxic.
