whats happening here
    #26343039 - 11/24/19 05:11 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

So I tried two ways... One small brf cake with PESA from syringe. on foil on top of horsepoo. Starting to pin.. This is cool
in a Poormans Globe I read about here.

And ... a BRF cake no foil set on horsepoo. Uhmm its colonizing to the poo
Probably shouldnt have left the foil out. this cake is 2 days behind the one above. I misted a little too hard couple days ago and got some bruising I guess it will fully colonize the ppo first before pinning. Not sue so i left the lid on and no GE holes open at sub level and poly in the lid no globe yet

any thoughts .....

:ytho:  I don't fully understand what you're trying to achieve here.
Why is there a cake on top of poo with foil in-between? And why is there a cake on poo vs crumbling and actually spawning too the poo?

Thank you for your reply. my first experience. those two cakes were half pints that stopped. 4 others were beautiful. In an other thread i posted.
I spawned those to poo bulk monotub. Its doing great.
these two I was skeptical of so on their own they went. The little one is pinning on the foil. looking good to me. ?? should i leave it going or sink it in the poo??
the one with no foil I am leaning to burying it. I really didnt think either one would do anything because the stopped spreading in the jar. When i birthed them they were real dry like i packed the brf to much on these two, not enough water. Thank you all who read and chime in.

The poo doesn't seem to be serving any purpose when there is foil between the cake and the poo. You could either remove this cake to a different container entirely, or crumble it up into the poo and let it colonize.

The second cake that is colonizing the poo does not need to be buried. It's fine as is. That said, there's not real harm to burying it, it'll just extend the colonization time, but it'll also give you a flat surface to harvest from. Either way is fine. Why didn't you crumble that cake immediately? Was there a reason you decided to put it on top of the poo like that?

What I mean is; why are you using poo @ all. It looks like yiure using it in place of perlite in a sgfc. Bad idea if that's the case.

I read pasteurized horse poo is great,so I found some great field dry poo. I'm learning. And these two cakes were weird so I experimented.

You've come to the right place to learn. Good on you lol. The whole situation you have there is kinda funny. If I were you id pull up all that is colonized and bury it under the poo.

The purpose of having some kind of substrate beneath the cake is for the material to give moisture to the air and the cake. You can use almost anything for this (even a wet towel), and introducing something like manure to this I would assume increases the risk for the cake to be contaminated. I would carefully remove the cake from the second picture with the green contamination on it, and keep it far away from your healthy spawn.

I would pasteurize substrate like vermiculite and some coco-coir maybe to put beneath your cakes. Again, it's only purpose is to hold moisture.

The poo was pasteurized and was real nice field aged. The color you see, to me is bruise, because the color came up ten minutes after I misted I think too hard. But i will take your advice. Thank you

I highly suggest you follow a sgfc tek. That poo, pasturized or not is going to contaminate, it's just a matter of what spore or bacteria finds it first. When that happens; and it will happen, your grow is done. Use perlite for humidity and follow a tek. Or if you just want to experiment then do that, just know that uncolonized poo WILL contam.

Theres nothing wrong with using hpoo, or the hpoo you are using, besides how you are using it. If you want to used pasteurized field aged poo as a bulk substrate, thats perfect. But you dont set cakes on top of it, this serves no purpose, for creating humidity under a cake  people use perlite, because its inert and the cake wont try to colonize it

For your next run I suggest grating/shredding the cake and mixing equal parts with hpoo into a tray, let that colonize and put a bag with a couple holes over it or make a fruiting chamber.

This one might make some fruits but is wonky as hell, you might not even be too late to shred and mix what you’ve got already, and I guarantee your results will be better.

Thank you Aegis. Heres what I did, the first little cake on foil was transferred on to verm and scrapped the poo.
And a pic of mono-globe from a thread here somewhere.

And the funky bruised cake ;  I burried and cased with fresh verm

Theres only a 5/8" micro-pore taped hole in the lid for now until I see pin, and then will remove yellow lid and add the clear globe on top and open holes at level with sub when fruit time.

Zombiewurm, This cake is one of 6 I had. Along with an other funky cake in this thread, it was a half pint that only colonized half way in 20 days while 4 others were complete. The 4 went into a small monotub with H-poo.

The weird "Art Work " cake I burried and cased is taking over. Its cool to watch its progress here

What's that in your photo? are you making a PF cake with hpoo and verm? That would be a great idea.

Yes It was a brf cake from a half pint jar that didnt fill the jar. so dunk and covered wth verm. it started taking over the hpoo( didnt put foil between poo & cake) see pic above. So covered with more good hpoo and topped with verm. its taking over. Im lookin forward to it pinning. It seems to me that it will produce very well. But really this is my first attempt.
