Dry grains

This is my second attempt at grain jars, using WBS soaked overnight and drained. They are pint size jars. Ive just added my agar wedges, but the grain seems quite dry.
Turns out my pressure cooker only goes to about 10psi, so I PC'd these pint jars for around 2.5 hours in the hope this would be sufficient. I had foil over the lids. Can anyone tell me whether it would be better to add extra water next time, or PC for longer? Or might the dryness not be too much of a problem anyway? Thanks

You should be fine man I use a small cheapo PC myself and as far as the grains most ppl tend to get them to wet me included they should look dry on the outside anyway if you soaked them they should be fine just let it ride out. Adding anything is the worst thing you could do just watch this grow and adjust if needed after you noc a jar it shouldn't be fucked with (other than a shake) until spawn.

Try the tissue test maybe. Pressure cook for longer to sterilize (which you should do at a lower psi) not to add moisture as you cover the the tops with tinfoil to stop water from adding to your water ratio. GordoTek has a nice YouTube video up on YouTube that includes how he prep's his grains that you might find easier than soaking for 12 - 24 hours. Extra moisture is going to make it easier for contaminates to find a home.

They look fine to me.

Hard to say now if you should have added more water or not.
From the pics, the grains look good.
To prep grains, you want them wet enough to easily squish if you squeeze them, but not so wet there are 'exploded' grains, and shit really sticks together in there.
I find grains can be inconsistent in their prep needs. The best way is to boil them and check every few minutes. The boil time that's necessary can vary between different bags of grain. Only way to get it right is to observe.
Another way Im toying with is to boil a small amount of your grains, and see how long it takes for some to start exploding, then, boil the grains you are actually going to use for 5 minutes less than that.

Thank you! Happy to hear they look okay. I had read that too dry is better than too wet. I hadn't planned to add any further water to these jars, I know that risks screwing it up more, but wasnt sure if I'd need to change anything with the next batch. I guess I'll see how these go, Im excited to see if it works this time!

My experience is only wbs but I tried making jars with less water just to see what happened and the only difference was slightly slower growth and it wouldn’t cover the seeds at the very top of the jar.
