What do you think? Input appreciated (pictures included)

I spawned about 1.5 quarts in a 6 quart mono tub about two and a half days ago. I am going an unmodified tub route, and I already flipped the latches up yesterday with the lid sitting on top of them so that gap allows fresh air exchange. Since doing an unmodified tub I spawned straight to fruiting, so along with the FAE I already have going on, I also have already been doing a 12/12 light dark cycle. I took the lid off really quick to take some pictures so you guys can give me your input on how my progress is going. This is my first time spawning to bulk, I've only ever done PF cakes.

I haven't sprayed down water yet or anything, is that something that I need to be worried about at this point? The mist that you see on the side is 3 percent hydrogen peroxide I sprayed at the beginning to help fight any contaminants. I also spray it on my lid anytime I take it off. But when should I be worried about having to mist any water? Is that something I need to be worried about at this point? Also, do I need to be worried about any temperatures? It's basically in my room at room temp which right now it just sits at 77 to 78 degrees. I have ambient sunlight coming through closed blinds in my room.

I'm not spraying anymore. It's just by closed blinds getting ambient light. I that doesn't have anything to can hurt or do anything to it. Are you saying I'm just being paranoid?

Does the hydrogen peroxide damage it somehow? You said stop the spraying I’m worried I might of damaged them now.

Just chill.
Probably nothing is damaged but spraying h202 on a tub is really unnecessary and doesnt solve any problems you are precieving.
Spawning isnt a clean/sterile process.

So about how long do things take in this stage then before I need to be worried about water or the next step? Do the mycelium have to colonize the whole bottom of the substrate and the top will be the last thing colonized?

Next step should be mushrooms
Research the word 'chillax'
Example: chillax and let those tubs do what they do.

Based on that growth, you need to be extremely careful, don’t get too close or touch it... it might try and eat you!
But no seriously, it’s growing it’s ‘stomach’ through that so it can chow down, and from the looks of it, it’s hungry. This is the hard part where you just need to leave it alone to do its thing.

So do you think the way I’m keeping it in the light by closed blinds that the sunshine heat could be damaging or detrimental? Is there a certain lower temperature I need to be at or everything is good the way it is? It’s like at 77 or 78.

It doesn’t seem like anything has been changing when it’s in the light phase...? Or maybe I don’t know what’s going to happen next or what to look after how much time? I’m worried if temperature will be too hot how It getsit sunlight. How long until I start pinning then?

Oh okay, but if the sunlight isn’t detrimental, what about the temperature? I’m at work right now, but I know that my room temperature sits in the high 70’s like 78. That’s what I’m thinking and worried about at work right now.

Yeah today makes the fourth night since I spawned to my tub. I’m just wanting to find out an overall generalized time. Would it be after the first flush? Or do I need to be concerned with that beforehand?
I know that you are very knowledgeable and have tons of experience. I know I’m a noob to my first bulk grow and wanting to be prepared for everything. Like the hydrogen peroxide you told me to stop using and I did. I got it from Gordo, and then you told me not to, and I read your thread discussing it with him and listened to you. Your answers and expertise are very much appreciated.

I was in your shoes once too. Best advice I ever got was to 'leave it alone'
Kinda like good bbq. Let it mingle and do what it does. Constant adjustments will just fuck up the end product.
For now just play the waiting game. Or hungry hungry hippos.
Ps. That gordotek is garbage imo.

The absolute most difficult thing I had to learn in the mushroom growing process was to leave them alone. Don't micro-manage (or should that be myco-manage! Hahah!!!)! If you have clean spawn and decent conditions, you will get mushrooms! Trust Mushboy and the other experienced growers when they say leave them alone and chillax!

It’s so much easier to leave alone once you’ve got a successful grow done. The went from watching my jars constantly to watching my surface constantly then staring at pins forever. By the time it was finally done I had all kinds of jars and shoeboxes that had made tons of progress while I ignored them to observe the first farthest along one.
And like everyone has said they looked much better without me picking it up to check on colonization on the bottom and sides or misting it too much “just in case”.

I am leaving it alone, I haven’t sprayed or done anything. I have the lid cracked for FAE and doing a 12/12 light dark cycle, that’s all. I haven’t been playing around with it, misting, watering, or adding anything to it. I just want to know what to look out for if my substrate is dry or needs watering? Or is that not realistic until after a first flush? What are some signs? And does misting with water not really happen until after the first flush?

Point is, some things come with experience. Until you have some, post updates every couple of days. At some point, someone’s gonna go “dat surface mad dry homes”. And that’s what you should be looking for😅

It is tough I’m just starting to get a feel for it. The main things that I would say are pay attention to the color of the surface, when you use coir it’s pretty easy to tell from how light it gets. The other is when I did my first box I had read over and over keep it glistening. I was keeping mine with beads of water that I thought were tiny, but were actually way too big.
After a while I realized that while it should be glistening, the actual beads of water are so small they’re hard to see, kind of like if you were to sprinkle salt on it. It’s hard to explain it’s just something that eventually clicked.
Once there’s pins the myc seems to hold the water in larger drops on its own next to clusters of pins which is what threw me off.

It's been about a week now since I spawned, tomorrow will actually make one week. My tub is a lot more colonized, rhizomorphic growth all over the top, everything seems pretty much colonized. I don't see any sign of pinning or anything yet... I spawned exactly one week ago and just been playing the waiting game. Could it be that is has just stalled out now for some reason? If so, not sure about what the next steps are...

I guess I kind of do, but it’s hard to know you’re progressing and what’s happening if I don’t really know what to look out for. I was thinking I should be seeing pins at least form now that’s it been one week. This is my first grow.

Read more about knotting, primordia and pins - they are stages of growth that we can visually identify.

Do you think I should of put a thicker layer of substrate over the top whenever I spawned? I mixed everything, and then sprinkled just a very light layer over the top. I didn't want to put too much and everything be so high so I could allow room for growth. When I look at everyone else's it seems like they still have lots thick brown substrate with pins growing through. Everything on mine seems to be turning white. The mycelium is starting to look and become clumpy. Also room temps are 70-75, should I do anything different with temperature?

When I look at everyone else's it seems like they still have lots thick brown substrate with pins growing through. Everything on mine seems to be turning white. The mycelium is starting to look and become clumpy. Also room temps are 70-75, should I do anything different with temperature?
If your dudes are pinning, which you should learn to visually identify (see post above),
You dont "Need" a casing. Casing is said to improve fruiting, but it is not strictly required for normal cubes, it is however required for others
Dont know if adding a casing after pinning has begun will help it, but I think it will help some because of the water alone.
However, I would not add coir now. I would add vet verm. Any opinions on that, lurkers?

Gonna see what the TC's say

I’ve been doing like 1/3 inch layer of coir on top at spawn. I think 1/4 inch of actual casing is the recommended amount, using the peat/verm mix.

No I’m not talking about putting anything now. I’m talking about when I originally spawned, if I should of made the top layer a little thicker because I always see others with pins with still a lot of substrate around. I only barely sprinkled enough just to cover the top whenever I spawned. I didn’t make it a quarter inch or anything. My whole top is just completely white now with no pins. The mycelium is just becoming clumpy, there are no pins. I wouldn’t want to go back and add anything now. I’m just asking do you think I should of done it like that, or does it seem mine is progressing normally? I usually see pins on others with still lots of substrate around. Mine is just getting all thick clumpy white all on top with no pins. And how is my temperature? My room temperature stands between 72 and 76.

Yours is normal. The ones you’re talking about probably have a peat moss casing. You can wait til the surface is totally colonized like yours is then put a casing layer on it.
