Mold already??? (Pics)
    #26341660 - 11/24/19 04:36 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Just noc’d up 4 brf jars last night with a homemade ms spore syringe—today I am noticing what look like they could be black mold spots around the inoculation points, though maybe they are just spores? Wasn’t expecting to see contamination this early....am I just being paranoid Would love to know what you guys think! Cheers.

Keep an eye on it but I think that might be something else, like debris from the vermiculite or something (something that isn't alive) unless your sure it wasn't wasn't there when u started in which case I dont know cuz I've never had a jar with any kind of black mold..

That was my thought initially as well—it was late when I inoculated and I didn’t take a super close look. It seemed very soon to be seeing contams though my sterile technique could of course be better. Thanks for the input—I’ll try to distract myself and let them do their thing undisturbed.

I think you're looking at spore clumps.

Like 30 hrs ago more or less. I’m just being paranoid 😬 It’s my first time, can you tell?

There are reasons why there are so many jokes about people losing their minds that they don't see fully colonized jars after a day. Relax and let it do it's thing and if you followed the teks properly you should be rewarded with fruits. If you can't be patient then this might not be the hobby for you. Even on an agar plate I doubt you'd see any growth in 30 hours even if it was most contaminates.

Maybe just put it in a cupboard for a week or so and then check the progress. If you don't see any growth relax and let it colonize longer as it can take a few weeks for spores to even germinate.

I obviously wasn’t expecting mycelium already—patience isn’t an issue here, just over-scrutinising :p

Thanks for the reassurance—fingers crossed everything goes as planned and I get some nice fruits out of this—planning to spawn these cakes to shoeboxes.
