Hi, I am a first time grower. I sourced spores from a semi-legit supplier near me - i.e. it is a new internet store selling spores 'for micoscropy only'. I wonder if anyone can confirm for me that I have grown some mazatecs and not something else that is poisonous?
Thank you

Nice, looks good and tasty to me - congrats.
You should eat them fresh or dry them, I suppose you already know how? They taste better fresh.

Thank you all.
I was planning to dehydrate them but may keep some fresh as well.
Once the cakes are done, is there any value in doing anything with them? E.g. putting them in some woodchips in the yard?

I'm not very experienced with cultivation, but there are members who'll post pictures of spent cakes fruiting from their compost heaps. Not sure how they'll manage in woodchips though, since they mainly grow on dung in the wild and there is a plethora of woodloving competitors that are more likely to colonize the chips. And of course the outdoor conditions where you are will be of importance. P. cubensis mycelium won't survive in freezing temperatures, for instance.
What you eventually could try is to salvage some of the mycelium from your cakes, or take some tissues from one of the fruits and keep this alive and growing on agar. But I guess you're better off asking in the cultivation forum.

Cubes dont grow on woodchips, so i wouldnt try. U can try compost them. But spent cakes are basically no good anymore.
Make sure to spore print for future grows! And dry your Cubes!
The Mazatepecas Ive grown usually have brownish caps with little white flakes on them, which yours have. Congrats!

True enough... but not always true - it has been done a good while back:

They also have been found growing in wood chips a few times both wild and from people throwing out their spent cakes. They’ve definitely been found on that substrate in Georgia at least twice and I believe in Texas also, though don’t quote me on that.

Yeah, there are two finds in this year's GA actives thread with cubes growing on wood chips.
