Introducing myself 3

Hello everyone!
I am new to the Shroomery and very excited to learn everything that people have to share on the topic of entheogens. I am from Australia and currently residing in NSW.
I have completed a bachelor degree in neuroscience and I am currently studying medicine with the hopes to become a neurologist. I am obsessed with the mind, consciousness, and mind altering substances. I would love to hear people's stories and hopefully soon, share some of my own (when I get to have them!).
I look forward to getting to know everyone
Cheers, Sky

What a great intro!
I too once wanted to get into neuroscience. I wasnt quite smart enough thou. So im pretty jelly of your career. Hopefully someday u can use psilocybin for neurological therapy
Ive heard Australia has some pretty sweet wild fungi of the fun kind
Welcome to the Shroomery. Enjoy!

Therapy is definitely on my agenda for future career paths. Keen as a bean to find out who is doing what research here and get involved when I have some free time. Never say you aren't smart enough for study either. Intelligence is mostly just persistence. We are all dumb at everything we start, just keep trying.

Welcome
I'm slowly planting seeds in the rehab therapy academic community about research into psychedelics and stroke recovery, due to the way they promote neurogenesis and catalyze new pathways to route information in the brain. Basically repetitive practice of functional activities they're struggling with, while on low doses of psychedelics, to encourage greater and more rapid compensation by the non-affected brain areas.
Unfortunately I don't have the stomach to deal with the heirarchy and politics of working in academia, so I'll likely never get in on the research myself if anything ever comes of it. Initially was en route to Johns Hopkins neuroscience phd program/psychedelic research team, but the hoops were too soul sucking to justify the reward for me.

Wow! That sounds like an incredible idea. I have been really interested in stroke recovery since reading The Brain That Changes Itself (super original I know). It floors me how little effort goes into it (in Aus anyways), considering the massive functional and financial gains to be made. Adding a catalyst to neurogenesis surely must help the process of regaining function. Worth experimenting. Are they doing this at Johns Hopkins or somewhere else in the US? Sounds wicked cool.
I know the feel about research as a career. That shit is rife in med too. I am lucky to be going to the chillest and most laid back med school in Aus. We don't even have grades, years 1-4 are pass-fail to basically prevent us all killing ourselves.
You have definitely planted a seed with me. I will keep the psychedelics in mind when I look for research pathways later on
