If your spores didn?t freeze they are ok.
From your picture, I see that you are using the external temp. probe directly in the colonization chamber. how does this effect the temp. you set on the heater's thermostat? Have you noticed any benafit as compared to using a regular cheap heater?

ok just a quick question... you have the non-widemouth jars, how do you get the cake out... cut it up and do a casing?

I know that Rubbermaid and Sterilite both make similar tubs. They are available at Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam's Club, etc. I challenge you to find a discount department store that does NOT carry them.

Depends.... Some will still fall out of the jar after colonization...depending on what kind of jar it is. Some will have to be cut out of the jar with a sterile instrument.
If you cut a cake out of a jar....you can still fruit it like a cake. Or you can crumble it up and make a casing out of it.
I have cut a cake into pieces and then put it back together in the fruiting chamber...it will reconnect together...some what. It fruited just fine.

Hey could you give a link to where i could find those tubs? Or maybe the size and maker. Thanks
THE BOSS
Dear Boss Man,
I recognize the inside of those tubs because they're the exact same kind I have. They're 18 gallon/68.1 litre Rubbemaid Rouchneck Storage Totes. I got mine at Wal-Mart. And the best thing about them is that they come in gray, navy, green, and a couple other colors so you can coordinate them with the color scheme of your room
Now, what they need to do is start making one's with clear lids!

Here is a selection of several other fully submersible heaters, I don?t think you need more than 100W, except the place where the incubator stands is very cold.

Yep I put it into the chamber. The reason for this is the heater works off of the temp of the inside of the chamber and not the water around it. There is no guess work. Like set it for 90 so the water heats to 90 to get the inside of the chamber to 86 or close to it. With these the heater runs off of the heat of the chamber. So if you set it for 86 it runs the heater untill it?s 86 in the chamber not 86 in the water.
All the heater in this post work fine. I?ve used the ones Anno posted and both of them work great. The main reason I posted these is that you can change the temp without taking the thing apart. Just turn the dial.
