Growing shrooms legally

Okay, so there was a guy a few decades ago who legally grew Peyote. How can I grow Psilocybe mushrooms legally in the US?

You can't.
Tribal sovereignty is the only thing that comes to mind. So, if you live in an area designated under tribal sovereignty laws, then you can maybe grow mushrooms "legally". Those "sovereign" areas still get raided by the federal government all the time.
Maybe get a degree in biotechnology and see if Johns Hopkins is hiring?

That's a good idea. What about the churches dedicated to Psilocybin and other such entheogens? There's a place in Oregon that uses Ayuhausca as a sacrament and it's supposedly legal. They advertise and everything. People go there and pay like $250 to try it.

I was, admittedly, just humoring this idea. It's just not really feasible and those 'religious sanctuary' nutjobs usually get what's coming to them. Charging for ayahuasca is fucked up and trying to play the government does not go well... especially if you don't have the money to buy them out.

move to New Mexico (legal to grow on a technicality upheld in court) only place it is "legal" to grow psychoactive mushrooms in the US.
Denver, CO and Oakland, CA (maybe another in CA?) are decriminalized meaning, at least for Denver you can, for personal use, propagate (grow), possess and consume.
it is still illegal and still very much a schedule 1 drug for US and all contries in that agreement. and outside city limits or within but big enough pita to DEA to do something and you'll burn, just the city will not pay a dime to prosecute (unless you are distributing, there is a guy right now in that category). Other cities are coming onboard and iirc Oregon is pushing to decrim all psychoactives statewide.

I live in Oregon. I really hate some of the laws they made here. They practically decriminalized Heroin and Meth and literally every drug you can think of. I see heroin dealers getting out of jail with probation and community service. Psychoactives should be legal but not all that other shit. I personally know a heroin and meth dealer who got busted with absurd amounts of drugs and he was out of jail 4 days later and ended up with probation and drug court. The amount of overdoses has skyrocketed even in my small town becuase its now a simple misdemeanor to have i think up to 5 grams of heroin. The day that law passed every tweaker in town was celebrating. I worked at a gas station so I knew most of them.

consuming psychoactives/entheogens as a "sacrament" is how some are consuming legally, this says nothing of the legality of growing them. only that a few 'churches' have fought the gov and won some respite from harassment and prosecution. but it hasn't been a kind road for them to get there nor is it a guarantee church members have a get out of jail free card..

But are these people even serious about their "religious" use of these drugs? I totally see natural psychoactives as a spiritual drug but I couldn't put it on such a pedestal as a religious sacrament like the natives do with their respective entheogens.

I don't think any of those 'churches' you see are genuine - they're simply weaseling something out of the black market for their own personal gain.
This thread has next to nothing to do with mushroom cultivation. Try to direct matters like these to a more appropriate subforum.

i view them as entheogens and every time they are consumed spiritual growth occurs, even for the atheist and agnostic using recreationally.
cultures that have elevated psychoactives to such a pedestal of respect are very mature in such consideration and certainly the federal guvmint need not trespass on such long lived uses in very old and sacred use manners.
those who buy a seat in the church to have a mind blowing weekend experience may be giving it a bad rap, altho i see it as good for the participant and community should they actually incorporate things learned into their life in a meaningful way.

true for some, for sure, and calling it a religion and naming it a church is pretty apparent. for others, i feel they are legit, like NAC/PWC a good list: https://maps.org/news-letters/v12n1/12117stu.html

very true.
to answer OP, if you want to grow psychoactive mushrooms legally in the US either move to NM or be where it is decriminalized and call it good...

All drugs should be legal and regulated for safety. We need proper education, quality control, fair pricing, and addiction treatment. Making any drug illegal only creates violence and inhumane behavior.
This thread should be moved.

I applied in California for a license to do a medical study with mushrooms... I was denied for some reason.
