are contams dangerous
    #26340295 - 11/23/19 01:35 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

recently I embarked on the journey of starting to grow. obviously a lot of contamination as im a beginner being dumb. but im beginning to get worried if these molds/bacterias can hurt me. I was smoking while cleaning a jar with green contams out and... :stoned: well I almost smoked green mold lol. should I be more carful with contams, keep in mind i'm not just chucking them because I can learn how contams work and move and the different kinds by watching them. and well its just fun to watch nature go to work. but how dangerous are they/ can they be and is there any ones I should watch out for, for my own safety, and my cats  (this post is only talking about the dangers of contams to humans/ pets)

Edit: sorry for putting this is cultivation forum, if it can be moved to contamination forum id appreciate it

Some are bad others are much worse. Bacteria is smelly, but if you don't rub it all over and eat it you can just dump it out safely. Green molds are gross and if left to develop you'll want to empty them outside with a mask on as they will poof into green clouds that could be inhaled. Black mold is worse and Fusarium which is purply colored has been used to produce weapons by the soviets and was used to attempt to kill coca plantations in Columbia resulting in fucked up children. If you're worried about cleaning some of the more scary shit PC it first. My last batch of Fusarium was simply scooped out and added to the compost heap.

cleaning doesn't concern me, just looking at it and it being in my bedroom had me a little worried. but black/ purple mold I haven't seen and that seems to be the only one to be worried about, and I guess I should be a bit more carful with the green stuff cuz ive seen a lot of it and just poke it with my hands. I appreciate all the info and will be a bit more carful around green/black and purple contams.

Some are quite poisonous, but not enough to make just having them in your room a prime issue. But don't ever eat anything with mold on it! Also, having them in your room can be an issue depending on what they are in, and how much of the spore load ends up in your air. People who live in apartments that are constantly wet, and infested with mold, usually develop respiratory problems, so this is a real risk.

Another problem is that if you have lots of mold around, and the spore load is allowed to get around, it will make your future grows that much harder. You'll constantly have mold spores in your hair, on your clothes, on your hands, in your plastic totes, etc. I've heard of people having to close down or move their grow operations due to a too heavy mold spore load.

You really don't have to sanitize a room. Just clean it up.

You can grow in an old moldy basement.

so I could let them incubate in my moldy/super dusty basement? it makes sense cuz it just comes down to the air filter and sterilizing.. correct?

Edit: it is so dusty

Don't incubate. You can use your basement, but you should clean it regardless.

Psyduck, while excessive mold spore loads are not conducive to your health, it shouldn't be a problem for cultivation. This is specifically what FH and SAB are for. That said, don't leave nasty shit laying around unnecessarily.
