Bought a 50 pound bag, curious where most store there stuff, I might have rodents in my garage would rodents eat whole oats? If is store them inside would bugs be an issue? Side question storing made agar plates and agar cultures ; do you store them anywhere as long as you have parafilm/cling wrap on them? Up until now I’ve kept them in my SAB but I’m curious if it’s fine to put them anywhere

I took a few months growing hiatus and basically never went into my garage except to throw recycling in there and when I finally went in to check my bag of oats, mice or something had eaten at least 15-20 pounds...I'm not even fucking you there was a HUGE pile of husks and mouse shit.
Use a tightly fitting rubbermaid or sterilite tote, something that can seal well. That should be fine.
I have been keeping mine in my basement now but I Think a tote in the garage would of prevented it in the first place.

You’re looking at a possible rat infestation if you leave that much food in your garage for a few months. Look around for some food grade 5 gallon plastic buckets for the oats and keep inside. Restaurants get all kinds of stuff in those buckets, from soy sauce to cake icing. Just ask, or look around behind the back of the building for some buckets. I’ve found plenty at a community recycling drop off points.

A bucket with a lid is fine. A tote with a lid is also smart so long as you haven't drilled holes in it. Allowing rodents to live in your house/garage is dangerous. Clean the place up...

anything that seals relatively well will work. I personally, throw them in tuff totes and store them in my shed/ tent/ grain prep area. Each tote holds 3 40# bags nicely and they stack really nicely as well. Five gallon buckets with lids work nicely too, iffin you're just storing a little bit. You can also just leave sittin in their bags but rats will seek them out fo rizzle. you can still use them, even if rats have been foolin around in them but it just makes a mess and who wants a bunch of rats around anywho?
