Removing the gasket provides sufficient FAE for up to 3qts IME. I take the gasket off and put the lid on like normal. I’ll usually latch it until pinning and then unlatch and very slightly offset it during fruiting
It's a tough call, I left the lid on normally but the fruits started developing fuzzy feet. With the lid cracked as little as possible the surface is drying out in a few hours. Trying to find the happy medium.

I find fuzzy feet to not be as big of a problem, if a problem at all, than drying out a sub too quickly.

Ps cyans-From a “wild” patch I found in my front yard that I fed a bunch of chips and sawdust to last winter.

Will be cloning this cluster for sure!
Tried to grow from a print that I pulled out of this patch last year and had no germination at all, not sure why I didnt think to clone it instead but I had a lot on my plate at the time. Got all day free for myco work today and 1/4 bottle of agar just waiting to be melted and poured

It's great watching these progress. First bulk sub and they are starting to look tasty. Trying to keep surface conditions good and up the fae a bit. Hoping to take some clones of decent looking fruits as well.

Pasteurise some wood chips and throw in a few mushroom butts.
First just rinse them under water and store in a ziplock, the mycelium will explode...then add them to the wood chips. Alternatively you could just add the washed ends into pasteurised chips

Got some pink buffalo coming in. My second round of bulk coming along better and better. Soon I'll be posting canopies I promise. Starting agar so that'll be a fun task to learn.

Appreciate the effort but my first grow ever was stem butts with woodlovers about 7 years ago. I plan on doing it a little more sophisticated this time around. I will be cloning the cluster to PDA. Will be making a bunch of sawdust spawn for inoculating chip-dump locations this spring. .
Also no need to pasteurize for wild woodlovers if the chips are fresh and you keep the spawn sub ratio under 1:10, and after a sizable colony is formed I like to use fermented chips, the anaerobic pre digestion makes them go nuts.

Sweet...I recently found cyans and have done the stem butts, brought home chips from the patch. Even swabbed a spore print onto agar and I was too dirty.
As for the fermented chips, I heard Paul Staments mention this. Think I got his name right
When I say pasteurised I’m literally just poured boiling water over chips in a bag and drained it the next day when I got the chance
