If you think car is an investment, when it's not a Ferrari Daytona or Ford GT40, then you don't understand cars at all. In the modern day they fall into two categories, first and foremost they are appliances. The vast majority use them in this sector. Beyond that, they are a luxury, or even a status symbol. I don't think the Model 3 is anymore of a status symbol than a Prius.
I do agree that Tesla as a company is a bit shit. I know several engineers that have passed through the company, they are pretty terrible to their people.
Electric cars are the way of the future though, they offer many advantages. Love or hate the company, Tesla leads the electric car market. I see VW challenging soon, but not for another year or so.

Because if you know how to work on a car, it seems rather trivial the price of a new one compared to used. And it's rather pathetic that people let go of a car at 100,000 miles when the car can go to 400,000 miles rather easily.
Like I had a vw jetta for many years which I raced out. The only thing that happened after 160,000 miles was the head gasket somewhat leaked a little. So I added some special engine additive for such issues and the minor oil leak stopped. Oh well I drove the car for like 220,000 miles until I got bored of it and sold it.
I haven't seen many, but some people sell a prius used. The only part that really can be majorly wrong with it is the battery pack needing replacement. I think mostly it's a trendy thing that a car is older vs a newer one. Because a car only needs a new timing belt after 160,000 miles or so. If you drive normally. If you race, check it more often.
My Prius is 14 years old and the batteries are fine.

I don't view cars as investments. I will never buy a brand new car, probably. Only used cars that are good enough to last and serve their purpose. My point was only that people spend lots of money on Teslas, and are mostly ripped off, often very unhappy with the experience.
Tesla is definitely not the best e-car manufacturer. They are just the most hyped to a gullible public.

Tesla’s vision will only work with infrastructure — charging stations, better roads for autonomous vehicles, widespread car sharing, renewable energy grids with substantially more capacity, a battery recycling network, an expanded capacity for lithium mining — that does not exist and WILL NOT exist without billions of dollars for each of those projects.
All while there are better made, cheaper, and more sustainable electric car competitors (the Chevy Volt and Renault Zoe on the low end and the BMW chargeable 3 series on the other).
And the company isn’t profitable. And don’t tell me Tesla is like Amazon. It’s not and never will be. Amazon entered (repeatedly, aggressively, and strategically) markets that it could completely dominate in a short amount of time and that it had a related experience. It also did so with a pile of cash. So what is Tesla?
A company. That makes electric cars. With a really well known and very bright CEO. That is trying to puff itself up to seem like it is bigger than it is.

Which is the best e car manufacturer and what scale are you grading them on?

well, the article i just quoted provided a few examples of better quality e-cars than what Tesla makes, which is partly why I quoted it.
Tesla has quality issues, product delivery issues, and also issues with people being able to find charging stations. There are reports of charging station owners shutting them down because Tesla is refusing to pay them, and also these stations just not being as available as needed.
There are plenty of unhappy consumers in relation to the Tesla product, but since most of the people buying these cars are doing so to flex their status, many won't ever say anything negative because that would reduce their status. Instead they are just going to talk it up about how great it is (how great they are for having one), when in fact it is not so great.

I think it's a good 20 years before self driving cars really hit the market. I know tesla's can sorta drive themselves but for the mass market it's a good 10 years away or more. Plus what is the world going to do without a gas powered car? Because what, their is enough fuel in natural gas through fracking to power all cars?
This planet eventually will have to switch to better nuclear power plants and electric vehicles sure. But it's a good 100 years or more before that becomes available. So the big rush to electric vehicles is a little early in my opinion.

Not sure if your replies have been sarcastic, but if not, I guess your previous posts about solidarity only apply selectively...

I would expect a Martian UBI to be substantially more lucrative than an earthbound one.

I think a good criticism of the Tesla is that interiors are thin. They feel cheap in comparison to what you might be used to. They also definitely have manufacturing issues, but it’s improving. Electric cars have like 5% the moving parts of ICE cars, so they are inherently much more reliable. That will improve significantly too as we are early in modern electric car development.
