Morel Guy said he dont find psychs good for depression.
Quote:

I do not find that psycs are good for serious depression.  Average trips are not effective and rare life changing trip only has about a two week after glow.

Cant reply there  because few posts.  Hopkins disagree

Our research has demonstrated therapeutic effects in people who suffer a range of challenging conditions including addiction (smoking, alcohol, other drugs of abuse), existential distress caused by life-threatening disease, and treatment-resistant depression.

I would say that psychs alone aren't good for depression, however, psychs combined with intensive therapy can definitely be beneficial for serious depression, PTSD. I've made leaps and bounds with my CPTSD combining more traditional therapy with psychedelics and transcendental meditation as well as being more mindful in my day to day life. Psychedelics aren't a cure though, they're a tool and as with any tool they need to be used properly to achieve the desired outcome.

I have serious chronic depression and bipolarism.
What is mainly effective at managing my depression is lifestyle - activity and diet.
What is mainly effective at managing chronic manic episodes is microdoses of psilocybin mushrooms.
I've been free of all but the most minor manic episodes since taking therapeutic doses a little under a year ago.

That's my experience. I think, like most things, there's a fair amount of bio-individuality about it.

Agreed- psychedelics with meditation helps my anxiety and depression. I can't imagine doing them without some type of introspective practice, be it a vipassana or transcendental meditation. I find the combination allows me to understand the underlying mechanics of what 's causing the emotional distress and this helps make it manageable.

Terrence Mckenna stated that psychedelics are not a chemical cure for dependency when discussing the use of psychs for treating addiction. I believe the same holds true for depression, anxiety, etc.

Psychedelics will not "cure" anything and, in fact, can make things worse (for those unprepared and/or very irresponsible). But, from my experience, they are (mushrooms for me) far and away the best medicine on this earth.

Footpath hit the nail on the head. My first mushroom experience was unbelievably life changing. It literally changed my behavior from a depressed, hyper aggressive person by revealing to me my many traumas and ignorance of my behaviors. But it took time to settle those changes into me and it could only be guaranteed by lifestyle changes. It was, however, the catalyst that made me see all those things and initiate change.

And again, Footpath is completely on point with micro-doses. I have found that when micro-dosing my anxiety and depression are severely minimized that day and even minimized the next few days. But I must use that opportunity to DO things to improve my state or the opportunity to be in a much more free state is wasted and those psychological issues can come back just as hard as ever.

Basically:
Large doses have the potential to be life-changing catalysts but must be followed by integration and lifestyle changes/adjustments to be fully effective

Micro-doses are therapeutic and can combat very many psychological issues and neuroses IMMEDIATELY but must also be accompanied by continued maintenance and or lifestyle changes to be fully effective

With that being said, nothing has been as profound and catalyzing for positive change for me as mushrooms have.

cocaine is terrible for depression wtf. The thing with psychedelics, or at least I find, is that it's really only the first few earth shattering or intense experiences that can shake you up enough to where you get the motivation to want to change your mental habits and to overall just do better and be better. It's up to you to run with that, or to go back into the same state of mind you were in before.

In my experience LSD in particular is very good at keeping major depressive symptoms at bay; but it does eventually return. I assume “depression” as a disorder is overdetermined, likely stemming from unique, case-specific interactions between biological, psychological and social factors. The common thread seems to be getting trapped in rumination and the default-mode network.

A big trip can kick depression for 3-4 months for me. Microdoses knock it back for about 5 days. Big doses combined with psychotherapeutic work seems promising for really de-programming depression in a more enduring way.

Everyone is different. This is always important to remember.
