ID on strange mushrooms
    #26336509 - 11/21/19 05:30 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

My first trip out looking for mushrooms, did not find any of the usual mushrooms but found some weird ones one of which kind of resembles the liberty cap but is much too big to be one and the stem is too thick, both have purple brown spore prints and don't seem to stain blue when bruised. I've searched all over the internet looking for these but can't find anything like them. Anyone know what they are, if they are active or edible at all? The pointy ones were growing on a dead fir branch and the other ones that I am holding in the photos came from dead leave piles

Your pics are hard to see.... it looks like you may have a mix of some Psathyrella and Coprinellus and maybe even a little Mycena thrown in the second to last photo too...

Disclaimer - I'm just a hobbyist and cannot absolutely guarantee any ID offered. I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.
