Poor Memory / Brain Fog - Result of Stress/Anxiety?
    #26335783 - 11/21/19 11:40 AM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Hey Guys,

Gonna try and keep it short and sweet.

I took Shrooms for the first time about 4 months ago now. Didn't have the best experience of my lifetime, but it wasn't truly awful either. After the trip I definitely felt different, and I sought advice from my doctor. She believes that the trip may have encouraged an underlying Anxiety disorder to come to the surface and effect me more on a day-to-day basis.

I've fought hard through these four months, realising that the shrooms may have showed me things that I was not happy with in my life, only, I was now much more sensitive to not being happy about these. So, I've made changes - mainly making big improvements in my daily exercise routine and pulling my diet together much more and meditating. I'm still not enjoying my job, which is something I'm trying to make a change in, as that seems to be one of the areas of my life that can get me down at the moment.

I just have one question really. It's regarding my memory, as I would say if there is any area in my life that I feel has changed and is effecting me each week, it would be that I am more conscious that my memory is not as good as it used to be. I seem to have lost a certain sharpness. This seems to have a snowballing effect on me, as I lack confidence to speak my mind and have a general confidence in things I know. Basically I just feel stupid, because in some context I am unable to have conversations with people on certain everyday subjects or even make the fun and witty comments with people that I might have used to.

I'm seeing a therapist, she seems to believe that the anxiety causes these negative thoughts about myself to actually cause me these cognitive issues. Rather than me actually being stupid. Which makes sense, as if I look at my life before and after the trip, I don't think much has changed about me. I'm just much more insecure about myself potentially.

So, I'm kinda answering my own question here. But, I guess I'm just looking for advice or guidance from anyone who might have had a similar experience. Would really value any advice on how to get my memory/brain feeling back to the how it used to. I've read a lot about trying to learn new things or skills, which in turn will make me feel more at ease and resolve my 'issues' with my memory.

Thanks for your time.

To me mushrooms are like Pandora’s box. You have opened the box and an army of doctors and therapists can’t help you shut it. At best they may help you deal with the aftermath. The question is this, do you continue on this journey, continue to try close the box, or deal with the aftermath, the choice is yours.

Eat lots of oily fish. I fucked up my memory pretty bad from a youth full of abusing MDMA, and it's all that works for me.

Very interesting perspective on things. I've contemplated in my mind the idea of trying it again, to delve back in and face my fears and have a more positive experience.

But, the fact this one bad experience has me feeling so much worse in life, you can understand I'm feeling majorly apprehensive. I really think I want to try and 'close the box' on this experience, but whether I'll be able to do that and feel happy afterwards seems like an impossible task a lot of the time.

Oily fish eh? Might have to give up the lifetime of vegetarianism for this. Or figure what the nutrients are that help you...

Lion's Mane seems to really help, but I/m just speaking from one person's experience.

Buddy what you are inadvertently describing here.... is the depressing reality of wokeness. Not the meme.... but the actual thing.

It would be comical if it werent so depressing.

Society is not built to house a real human in my opinion. Society molds the minds of its citizens to better suit the environment and youve popped the cork.

Think Icarus. Its been described for thousands of years.

Go on youtube and look up "Platos Allegory of the Cave". It is your decision what to do.

I assure you it is possible to lull yourself back into your old habits and mannerisms. It will just take time. You are in control of what you want the future to look like. There is no right answer and anyone who tells you there is is either lying or a fool.

As far as memory goes.... the former self that you were was probably more engaged in everything that you did. They probably enjoyed it all thoroughly as well. Memory is utilized based off how much of a damn you give. And when you are in your head thinking "What does it all mean?" or "What am I supposed to say next in this convo?" suddenly the laundry needing to be moved to the dryer is not a priority thought and easily forgotten.

It seems to me to be kind of a good thing, when I look at it like this:

1) anxiety and depression cause exhaustion, distraction, and brain fog
2) after your experience, you seem to have learned some areas of your life that need change
3) realization that things need to change, and the change itself is stressful and difficult, so it's not a quick fix
4) making changes, such as the ones are you making, will likely bring more relief and happiness
5) you said 'the one thing that can get you down in your life' is your job - sounds like you need to change that, and that's a big one!! stressful and hard to chance
6) but when you do make the changes you need to make, I suspect you'll be feeling quite good

So, perhaps the outlook for you is very positive
You identified areas you want to change, and are struggling with the challenge of making those changes, but will emerge in a better place.
