Greetings from Australia! (some questions from an apprentice)

What's up. I've come here to share a bit of my personal experience, but mainly to ask questions about how psychedelics or drugs have affected you, and what you think about how they've affected me.
As it happens, I'm yet to actually try mushrooms (though I want to!) I personally don't get much from either Alcohol or Cannabis. I've tried both in varying degrees, and I can't say being drunk or stoned is a particularly fun experience (in that alcohol doesn't really bring about any special joy to life, nor does cannabis.) All Alcohol does for me is make me go from normal to normal + drunk. Maybe it just affects me differently, but I don't quite see the particular appeal.
Cannabis is a whole different box of frogs. Almost every time I've tried it, I've gotten a different effect. It always makes you feel stoned, obviously, but in different and slightly indescribable ways each time. Not quite always "bliss" for me, but more like simply seeing through a slightly different pair of glasses if you know what I mean. The first time I tried it, I only had about a quarter of a thin joint with poor quality bud. Though you wouldn't expect this to produce profound effects, it certainly did a lot more than I expected. It felt like my soul was diffusing into the nearby space surrounding my body (a kinda pleasant feeling, especially when I had let go), and my vision felt like it was zoomed in and out.
On other occasions, it simply made my body feel heavier (on top of the feeling on stonedness). On one occasion I smoked a similar amount to the first, only to have no stonedness at all. After about three hours, I suddenly felt EXTREME existential anxiety and paranoia (is anything real, etc.), which lasted for several days and turned me off from smoking for about a year. As it happens, I tried it out again a few months ago, and it completely blew my socks off. Pseudo dream-like states, space and time warping around me. It was quite awesome to witness, but I still didn't get much out of it - just a cool experience.
I'm quite new here, so I'd like to ask, have any (or many) of you guys had an experience similar to me? In regards to taking Mushrooms for your first time, what would yo recommend as a great first experience? I live in Australia, and a quite tropical and foresty part of Australia at that, so if I want to trip in nature all I have to do is go into my back yard (though I could potentially go to a park or even a nearby mountain if I wanted to). So I could trip in nature, at home, during the day, or during the night. Not to mention all the choices regarding dosage.
1.5 grams walking through a mountain? 2 grams in my yard? Lemon tek? I hear if you go in nature you'll want to walk barefoot, and bring sunglasses. That may produce a positive outwards experience, but what about healing inwards experience? At what point would 5g in silent darkness be recommended? What's the come-up like? What about peaking? I hear the come up for 5g in particular can be quite intense (like watching a nuke detonate in front of you behind 50m of reinforced glass, as McKenna himself described it). What's it like from your experience (in general - anything related to the trip)?
I would be absolutely delighted to hear literally any advice, or suggestions, or even general comments you guys have! Really feel free to just dump any info you'd like to share on me.

On the alcohol and cannabis, I totally agree.
Alcohol was "fun" at times but mainly was used to (incorrectly) deal with depression/anxiety when alone (I have recently cut back heavily on the drinking. I was never a "heavy" drinker but it was still affecting me negatively).
Cannabis was also enjoyable while I used it. It opened me up and took away some of my worse behavioral habits while under the influence. But it also enhanced some of my worst feelings.
Anyway, onto the mushroom experience
My first experience was at Burning Man a handful of years back. It was the single most important and profound experience in my life. I took 3g (in capsules) of cubes and it changed my entire life around (for the better). This isn't to say my problems/issues melted away (as i'm still working on them) but it completely reversed my mindset from "ignore and hope my lot in life would change" to "embrace and take action". And it gave me glimpses into my various traumas.
Because my first time was so profound, I would suggest something similar in principal.
- In a safe environment (at home, at someone's house where there are no distractions etc. We took it in a tent in the desert at night with our camp buddies, with headphones on, eyes closed and in our own "space")
- A good dosage strong enough to take you away on the journey. Too little (as i've found after the fact when experimenting) might just end up giving you a "high" with very little real experience (which isn't necessarily bad but I'd suggest something real powerful for a first time)
- Have a trip sitter who is sober and/or experienced. (Our trip sitter was very experience so he took a dose with us. He was very helpful in managing anything, which was actually just me and my nausea
making me want to go walk around randomly in the desert as if that would decrease my nausea).
- Do some ritual, meditation etc beforehand to get your mind quieter and into the coming experience.
- Fast beforehand (i'd suggest 6 hours minimum. We had fasted the whole day)
- And, be prepared for anything but have NO expectations. It was my first time. I surrendered myself not knowing what the effects were going to be. I let it take me where it needed to and that made for a profound experience (unlike when, recently, I took a dose and just wouldn't allow myself to let go. Lead to a poor experience. Always easier to let go when you expect nothing).
Good luck, enjoy and stay safe! Mush love

If you're close to nature and generally feel safe in the area, I would highly recommend immersing yourself in that environment. Much different experience than being home or watching tv imo

Yea definitely don't watch T.V, the trip itself is far more interesting than anything on television.
I agree that an experience in nature can be incredible, but I think for a first timer, without knowing how something will affect them, somewhere safe and indoors would be preferable.
Unless, like you said, you have a safe environment outdoors where you won't risk injury and have someone with you to make sure you won't get hurt.

Be prepared to have your alcohol and weed experience mean nothing when you trip.
Be careful and stay safe.

Follow Socrates excellent advice and you will have a great experience. Just let the shrooms take you where they will. The experience is different from alcohol or weed so just enjoy the ride.

Anywhere near Atherton tablelands? The P.semilanceata I found at Topaz in the monsoonal season were unreal. Took me to the moon.
Re- faoneus - P.cubensis and Copelandia cyanescens up there are weak. People who have tried them in other parts of Qld leave them alone up there in the wet tropics. Plenty around but they aren't worth the trouble.
So if you are going to pick those two species. You'll probably need more.

I'm not far from the Tablelands, head over there camping a few times a year.
Never heard of libs in this part of the world. Would have thought it too hot during the wet as well. That whole area from around Milaa Milaa heading north does tend to be a bit chilly though. It's gonna drive me nuts now thinking they might be there for the picking.
Did you find freaking loads of them or an isolated patch? Can you remember which month?

Found heaps in dairy cattle country. They'd fruit when the monsoonal trough showed. Say from Nov-Feb. Needed about 6 inches of rain to get them started. It was hot when they fruited but quite humid.
I know they were liberty caps now. They'd kill the couch grass from fruiting so heavily. Always on manured ground but never on the manure.
I was tracking finds on the UK thread and they would fruit in heatwaves if it was wet enough.
