What are your favorite sets, eras, and models?
Do you still have all your LEGOs from childhood?
I just got a small set to occupy some down time between clients on slow days, and holy shit do I miss these from childhood. Get high and build shit! Share your LEGO legacy, Shroomery!

Nah I haven't touched a lego in like 2 decades. I enjoyed them a lot as a kid though.
There's too much emphasis on sets though that tell you what to build and it's themed so there's really no imagination to it at all anymore.
Just read the instructions and follow them.
I can get the exact same feeling and process out of buying a couch from Ikea and building it at home. At least then I'd have a couch.
Lego's are dope though for sure. What a simple and great idea to get filthy fucking rich.

Dude I totally agree and that's why I'm only into the LEGO CLASSIC line, which is just a big box of random colored blocks, and you just go. No set models, just free-jazz LEGO building! It's the only way. I should have mentioned that in my opening post lol.

Get high and build shit!

Some of the stuff they build is truly remarkable from the little blocks. Oh I forgot to add the punchline to that couch analogy; The fucked up thing is, the couch and the lego set cost about the same price.

I know, people build some crazy shit. I was huge into KNEX as a kid in the 90's, as well. I had the roller coaster LOL. I had way more of those than LEGOs.

Ye I remember knex as well. Used to be all sorts of different building materials back then. Little similar and slightly similar pieces that could be assembled into something different were very popular in the 90's it seems.
One of the most badass toys were Transformers though. Fuck I used to have one that was so complicated like 20-30$ badass one that I lost the directions on how to change him into his other form that he just stayed half assembled for the rest of his days

I always wished I kept my Legos from when I was a kid. I had a ton. My son loves them though, we've bought him 3-4 boxes of those just random pieces. He builds all kinds of shit but every now and then I step on the legos and that's just no beuno

I have a five year old son. I build LEGO every. single. day.
We get him sets, he likes LEGO City the most, but we also get him boxes of just hundreds of assorted LEGO to encourage creative play. He comes up with some really interesting shit.
Years before he was born, when my fiancee’s older son was like 7, I gave him all my old LEGO shit from the early 90s and late 80s. Back then sets were simpler, and I was into the pirate sets and castles as a kid. I could probably rebuild some of that stuff with the pieces we still have. A few years ago I rebuilt the witch’s castle, it was cool.

That set in mint condition is probably worth an early 90's used Honda Civic

That’s a cool set. Love the giant tiki head thing.
One thing about LEGO sets- they’ve gotten flashier and more “real” looking, but they’ve also gotten easier to build. I think I posted about this within the past couple years. 25+ years ago, the instructions were like a little scavenger hunt. You had to examine each diagram and carefully determine what had been added, and where. These days, sets have a little inset drawing on each page that shows exactly what pieces are added in that step. It makes building it easier, removes some of the frustration of having skipped a piece only to find out about it later and having to backtrack, but it also diminishes the feeling of accomplishment you’d get when you’d finish a whole set accurately. I like the new style instructions for my son at age 5, it really helps him, but I think the old style would be better when he gets older. Maybe when he’s like 9 I can sharpie out the little inset on each page, lol. “BUILD AS I DID, CHILD!” I’ll exclaim as he whines over his now much more frustrating LEGO set.

I completely understand what you're saying and I agree. It's like the only thing they don't do now with models and video games is put it together/play it for you, lol.
Remember trying to build models you didn't have...by picture from magazines and shit? Old school bootLEGOing!!!

Or you can do what my dad did and moved me up to those model car sets and stuff that you use super glue and shit to put together. Damn I actually forgot about those. I spent a lot of time doing those when I was younger. Good times.

Totally did "real" models, as well. I'd be lying if I said I didn't enjoy the ease of pick up and go/finish with LEGO and KNEX, though.

Oh ya they're completely different vibes for sure. I don't recall really playing with toys that much after like 9-10 years old though. I was always more interested in pc gaming. Thinking back I don't really recall having a lot of "toys" or any really by the time I was in like 5th 6th grade.

Ye I grew up in the valley of Alaska and had dirtbikes and a 4 wheeler. You could just ride them wherever out there so it was like having a car at that age. That was before everyone cared a ton as well so I'd regularly ride the 5-10 miles to my best friends house for the day and shit. No cell phone or anything lol. Then we'd all ride off and build forts in the woods and shit lol. Good times.

Nice dude I've always wanted to visit Alaska! I grew up outside of Boston, throughout the entirety of the 90's. The only rule was "come home when the street lights come on". Those days were absolutely MAGIC. Those are the closest to a natural high/enthrallment outside of psychs for me.

I had LEGOs, that and I think it was Erector Sets or some sort of knock off of them with the wrenches and all that. I made a dragster. The best ones I had were, the lego airport and then a dirtbike which kicked massive amounts of ass. The one that got away was the space ship, I wanted that space ship but never got it..
I was going to post photos but it looks like they’ve changed. They don’t look like how I remember them..
This is the dirt bike I had, the pistons in the engine moved etc.. pretty epic.

This is cool, I forgot about Technic..
