Is this Mold or Myc? Contaminate? Treatment or abandonment?
    #26333882 - 11/20/19 03:44 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

First time trying this. Thought the white spot was normal mycelium but in past day has a blue tinge on one spot. Also, there is some yellowish/greenish looking stuff in another spot. Nothing smells bad. Just a musty earthy smell but I want to know if I need to treat anything/ignore etc. I haven’t been able to find pictures of anything like this during my online search. Thanks for any help or opinions!!

Very difficult for me to say-but to my eye that big white patch in the middle is maybe some kind of bacterial infection and the outer bluish patches seem to me like good mycelium that have bruised from being stressed somehow?looks maybe like its dried out abit??

Hey there! Thanks for your input. Today is seems like that white spot has “collapsed” into itself a bit. Looks a little more normal to me and it doesn’t seem to be growing like it’s invasive. Would you agree or should I try to eliminate that white spot? If so, any suggestions on how? Thanks for your help! Much appreciated!

With your last pic -Im thinking you certainly have a bacterial problem in that tub-the yellowing and bruising on the outer edges doesnt seem right.
Maybe Im wrong - you still might get some fruits-but-it may also go green on you..:frown:hopefully someone else drops by with a 2nd opinion.

Yep. It got worse. Today the white patch I have been talking about is green. The stuff on the perimeter of the box hasn’t changed at all the last several days. I’ve hopefully removed the green mold. I ended up cutting a 2L coke bottle in half, sterilized it, and then with sterile gloves twisted it into the soil around the mold (plus several centimeters). I twisted it all the way down to the straw substrate and then took a sterilized hose, attached it to a vacuum, and sucked all of the mold and dirt out right down to the straw. Added a layer of salt over the substrate and left the plastic “form” in place. Hopefully this gets rid of what I hope was a localized mold issue.

Thanks for your input!

Sorry man.I thought that looked abit off -but dont feel bad-Its all part of the learning process
I still get tubs going bad-It all boils down to clean spawn...
Spend more time on getting clean mycelium growth on plates -then to grain and your tubs will be good.
Keep on keeping on....:mushroom:
