Shmoov move 1

The shmuv box. Commonly considered a HEPA shit, considered by a few individuals to be quite effective. I would not normally buy such expensive equipment, but I found an amazing deal on the Holmes "True HEPA" HAP726. This gizmo: https://www.holmesproducts.com/air-purifiers/holmes-allergen-remover-and-air-purifier-console-with-true-hepa-air-filter-white/HAP726-NU-1.html#sz=18&start=13 So I figured I'd take the opportunity to experiment with an upgraded shmuv. The two filters are rated 99.97% of particles arrested at .2 microns. Carbon prefilter and all that jazz.

The filter is on its side, it blows air upward when sitting straight up. I have it pointed at the back of the shmuv so it doesn't blow right out the armholes. I elevated it on PVC spacers as not to block the intake.
Tested yesterday by leaving agar dishes open for 10 seconds, 1 min, 3, 8, and 30 minutes. No signs of anything growing on em. so far. I iso the inside of the bag, the exhaust of the filter and everything going into it, leaving the fan on it's lowest setting. I also poked 2 holes in the "bottom"/non-filter side for possible eddies that previous shmuvers have told me not to worry about. Hard to test for turbulance but the bag keeps inflated with good pressure and there's no observable turbulance. I'll let you know how well it do!

Love em. Mine was a $40 Walmart special. Best money I've ever spent. Mine is HEPA and ionic, 2 microns.

That’s some antique technology. Sell it for 1 million dollars

I use mine with a 5 foot table that folds when I’m not using it. Perfect for small spaces or limited work area. My bulky ass sab takes up so much space and it looks kinda strange with big holes in it.

Billions and billions and billions...
Ya my sab became storage for mush cult stuff. I like being able to roll it up and tuck it away.

I have a schmuv box tek bookmarked for a few months, but always believed they were crap since there are very few posts, and very few people claiming it wokrs.
But i find it to be a briliant and potentially effective system if the filter were to prove itself useful. I doubt it though
Are you people using these things???!

Yeah, what’s the success rate like? And why aren’t more people using them? Sounds like a compromise between SAB and FH.

I’d get 99-100% no different than a flow hood or a sab. There is a slight different technique to it. In the end I think whatever method you use has to do with technique. I’ve literally never had many contams using any of the listed methods. I’ve got a link in my reference guide on how to set one up. People were ridiculing it on this forum 10 years after it had been proven by thousands of people.
It’s fantastic for big work areas. Use a giant 55 gallon lawn bag.

Maybe like 15-25 people have posted about it ever here. Seems like most people use them for needle inoculations anyway. Which you can do open air with pretty good success. Anyone got a g2g video or doing pour agar plates in one of those with reasonable success?

I’d use em for g2g , agar, liquid inoculation. Just about most of my mush work except inoculating pf jars. I’ve done that open air since 1996. Hey bod how you doing this fine day?

So... The question before constructing one of these would be which filter to buy and how to know wether or not it will be suitable.
Would any vacuum cleaner HEPA be suitable then? they should work if they are rated at 99.97, right?

Mine comes with everything but the trashbag and it already has a good HEPA filter. Just buy the room purifier it's $50 at Walmart.
As far as how well does it work? It works too well. I can be in and out of the same pitri for weeks taking transfers and not have it contam. This agar showed a nice sector and I kept growing it out and harvesting more transfers every few days.
 Same agar

Any of the stuff in my journal and sig will show you what can be done with success. I use it for everything. I think they aren't popular bc ppl who want to build a fh want a nice big one and ppl who don't want to spend money go cheap sab style.
I still get contams but they don't come from the unit failing, they come bc they were on something I put in there like a dirty print. This is Cuban from 2012 spores. Print was dirty and now I'm cleaning it up. I can work on things like this without it contaminating other things as long as I replace the bag and keep it Lysol/IPA wipe down between sessions. I also spray the inside of the bag before I roll it up for storage.
I'd like to mention that I bought mine around 2010 and I've never replaced the filter and it is still performing well. I do try to keep it clean though.

Omfg. You’re telling me I can have the FH peace of mind without the $500 price tag??? Fucking. Game. Changer.
Ordering one today. Can’t wait to be taking my sweet time with agar work. Speeding through transfers in the SAB is the most stressful part of my week.

I would look for one equivalent to this. This is basically what mine is but I have ionic filtering as well as hepa. Look at the product details

FFholmes is the 40% off everything friends and family discount code for all holmes products. They have nice purifiers. Bod, what's your experience with them? I know you're generally on the skeptical side of the schmuv, yeah?
