Amazon has actual parafilm, where I got my 2" wide roll. I like it, but it needs to be kept in a ziploc or typperware to keep from drying out. It especially likes to crack on plates so those too need to go into bags after wrapping, but it keeps em cleaner than out in the open so it's not much of an inconvenience really.
Oh shit, eBay got a 38 meter by 4" box from china for just a bit more than 25' by 2" roll on Amazon. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Parafilm-M-Laboratory-Film-10cm-4-wide-Length-1m-2m-5m-10m-/271971948829?_trksid=p2385738.m4383.l4275.c10&&&&var=570799260753&varId=570799260753

I just use plastic wrap cut to 1 inch rolls with PVC cutters. Parafilm also sells 1 inch rolls of grafting tape Iv though about trying. Iv never tried regular 2 Inch Parafilm but I like not having to cut individual strips for each dish.

I doubt it has the gas-exchange properties of parafilm, but since it's "self-adhesive", like parafilm, it might turn out to be very neat to use. Since gas-exchange doesn't seem to be much of a factor(*), you can risk it and find out.
(*) So far (>100 dishes), I have not noticed a difference between parafilm-wrapped triple-vented petris (best-case scenario with standard materials) and PVC-film-wrapped non-vented petris (close to worst-case). This is only for culturing until transfer, I have no experience with pinning petris yet.
Edit: I actually googled "self-adhesive" after writing this, and it says "coated with a sticky substance", so I may have misunderstood (non-native speaker). If the stuff is coated with an adhesive, it's gonna suck to remove, so overall not worth trying.

How is cutting lengths of parafil different from cutting lengths of celophane? Or is this some other kind of plastic wrap of which ye speak?

You can cut a big roll of cling film into small rolls to then use without preparation, just rolling & tearing off as much as you need (check out bodhisatta's videos). But parafilm is much easier to remove, less of a mess after use, and also serves nicely to hold the top-most petri in a stack in place (so it doesn't move while cutting, etc.). So all in all, the pre-cutting hassle might be worth it, IME.

Iv never used Parafilm but don’t u have to cut a strip for every dish? With plastic wrap I cut it into 1inch rolls and never have to cut strips. Just wrap and break it off. Or do u cut your Parafilm into mini rolls also?

I see what you mean, didn't think about just tearing plastic wrap. Sounds janky to me. Parafilm feels more sophisticated and it's fun to strech onto plates. Reminds me of working in a real lab.
They do actually make parafilm holders where you can tear it along serated teeth. I don't mind using scissors. If you got the 4" wide roll then you could probably manage with just cutting across. I currently like to cut my 2" into sections 6" long and then in half so i have 1"×6" strips.

The shit in the op is not what you want. Get actual parafilm or just go to wally world and pic up a pack or two of glad cling wrap. and cut it into strips. That's what i do and i prefer it over parafilm. It's easier to use (in my opinion) and doesn't need bagged to avoid moisture loss.

Couldnt agree more...i have never bought nor used parafilm for agar plates. Cling wrap is great as you almost always have it in the kitchen, is easy asf to wrap and unwrap your plates when your working in a sab or in front of a hood. If im out of cling wrap i just use some electrical tape...

I use a similar product to the op, it is grafting tape and I find it superior to parafilm, it allows some gas exchange and is impregnated with antifungal/antibacterial chemicals, it works extremely well, I'll never go back to cutting small lengths of glad cling wrap.

Good to know grafting tape works. Iv been wanting to try it but wasn’t sure. And why would you need to cut small lengths of cling wrap? I just use it strait from the roll and break by pulling.

With the adhesive? I could see it being nice if it wasn't sticky.
