SAB with plastic roll

Hi ! I am looking to make a SAB that is large enough to be able to inoculate agar into grains and then grains into a spawn bag. Most SABs are too small for this.
And why not make a SAB with a frame made of rods (wood or metal) and then cover this frame with soft and transparent plastic sheets? Like this one : plastic roll
It would be more practical, we take it apart and reassemble it at will, it doesn't take up any space.
What do you think? Problems I wouldn't have thought of?

Probably possible, but two immediate probs that occur to me:
- Transparency of material: you need to be able to see clearly what you're doing. The plastic you linked isn't transparent(?). Any cheap plastic is probably going to suck, esp. when sprayed from the inside with soap.
- Ability to clean with a quick & easy iso wipe: folds, frame, etc. may prevent that. Dust & dirt will accumulate and minor air movement will dislodge stuff all the time, esp. if not sprayed.

A third problem is if you use a sheet it won't be rigid. Then as air moves about outside it, the walls of your sab can flex turning your sab into a bellows. That is the opposite of what you want.
It seems to me that a sab with rigid sides is necessary for high levels of consistent success.

Bulk substrates don't need to be sterilized, only pasteurized because they are usually not highly nutritional unlike grain. I suggest making a regular SAB to use only for agar and grain work. This will be much more convenient then having to assemble/disassemble one made out of a frame and plastic sheet. Regular sized ones are not that big(100-max150 quart) so storage place shouldn't be a problem. Also, just like hobbyist said, plastic sheet walls will be prone to moving around, thus moving the air inside as well. Rigid ones are necessary

You can probably do bags in a 200qt tub. They have them at Walmart.

I have done this. It works about as well as your grain spawn, sterile technique, and bag seal all combined allow it to. If one of those 3 elements isn't up to snuff then it will go bad. Last few bags I colonized had a moldy portion which I excavated and then spawned the rest. Actually got one full flush from those, but now I'm building a FH because I wanna make shit happen. If you are going to attempt bags then use small or medium bags in a 200qt SAB.

trying to g2bag with a quart jar inside a sab can also be a bitch. smaller master jars were easier to handle

If i ever build a new SAB, It'll absolutely be the Cadillac of SABs. I'll make it easily collapsible with a glass or plexi glass window and lights inside. It'd be tall enough to EASILY do bag to bag work. I've worked bags in my SAB and, like quirk said, it's doable and very much contingent on your technique BUT i nice, tall, collapsible custom sab with lights and a glass window would be fucking awesome!

It could be built very quickly and very cheaply. I already have a hood but SABs come in handy for certain things (as you know). As long as i'm building one, i might as well throw a bill at it and make it sexy as fuck.
Also, magnet covers for the armholes are awesome.

All right, my idea wasn't that good ah ah ! Ok i understand the need of strong walls, complete transparency and being able to clean the walls without moving air. Good advices thanks !
Then I'll do a small SAB for agar work. For agar to spawn bag (for panaeolus species) as it is just pasteurisate substrate i'll do it without SAB. After all, it'll quickly colonize with agar, surely more quickly than could contaminante do.

You plan on innoculating pasteurized substrate with agar? No grain?

Oh ok that's mush better
Why use bags at all? They're not as reusable as tubs. Seems like a waste.

I'll use tubs too but i was thinking that it'll be more easy with spawn bags.. i saw lots of tuto with pan and spawn bags. And the quantity that you can do with spawn bags looks much more than tubs.. maybe i'm wrong ?
In fact i never tried pan until now but i'm used to cubes for many years. I'll start agar especially for pans, to give me the best chances.
But i'm a noob so if you tell me it's better only with tubs, i'll follow your advice. Well i don't the pros and cons..

Tubs are stackable and reusable. Bags are intended for producing spawn and are good for gourmets.
