Lions Mane ID
    #26332131 - 11/19/19 08:07 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

Hi, I found these in southern Texas and am wondering if its lions mane.

If so, would you harvest whats there or leave it to grow since it seems small? Im also considering bringing a log back home with me. I took a small cutting for now to clone.
These pics are from 2 different logs.
Thank you, cheers!  :realpacman:

Nope not lion's mane.

Looks like pretty mature Climacodon sp. I'm not entirely sure, but I think maybe Climacodon septentrionalis is the only species that this both all white and found in North America.

I'm most familiar with the species found in the Pacific Northwest - those found in other parts of the world may vary considerably, so always do your own research to find out what grows in your area and what lookalikes you need to be aware of. Understand that many mushroom species cannot be 100% reliably identified by photographs alone, even by an expert, so it may not be possible to go beyond suggesting a probable genus.
