Australian Tool concert so expensive.
    #26331687 - 11/19/19 04:48 PM (4 years, 2 months ago)

So the Tool fear inoculum tours tickets go pre sale today in Oz and far out they're expensive. Starting at $108 all the way to $180.

I'm still buying tix but that's a lot especially before Xmas and I'll be having three kids birthdays within the next few weeks. Australia really gets smashed with things like this.

I understand costs of touring and crap but $146 for silver tickets X 2 plus $10 post and handling fees are fucked.

Tool were the first band I ever seen live when I was sixteen and I have seen them again back in 08 so they are a must see but honestly it's just too much money.

I’m not sure that the tix are expensive because you’re in Australia.  One of my friends saw Tool last weekend, and he paid through the nose for the tickets.  And he was lucky enough to get them from ticket master- he said they were reselling for 4x as much on the secondary market.  Tool is an expensive concert wherever you are, but I agree that that sucks.

It's not just tool though. Any overseas act that comes to Oz is overpriced. My wife wanted to see Fleetwood Mac this year but $174 for the nosebleed section. No way.

I remember paying $60 for most metal shows back in the mid 2000s.
Australia has a stupid high cost of living.

Fleetwood Mac would also be costly to see in USA.

This is 2019, buddy.  Musicians make the majority of their money through touring nowadays.  Shit gets expensive for folks buying tickets.  The whole world over.

Fleetwood Mac is probably just about done touring and they're hella famous. I could see them commanding big bucks for tickets especially since their demographic these days has turned in to the kind of people who are thrifty and budget well. They'll be dipping in to the retirement fund for that one, they probably have money for a new hip saved up and everything.

Yeah I know all. Just complaining. I've seen other bands in the last two years that weren't that expensive. But just sucks.

$146 aust is about $99us right now.

I saw tool this past October 15th in Denver. Third level nose bleed ran $191 on stub hub. Floor seats were upwards of something like $1200.

Well worth it, all but for the dude who sat next to me that hadn't had a shower in more than a few days.

Shows aren't that great.  It just feels like 'that place' for a day or few hours.

What's happening is mostly hype.

That's not even that expensive.  I paid about 200 USD for far back (but dead on) tickets here in phoenix.  Most tickets sold out almost immediately.  Tickets were as high as a few THOUSAND for the section in the center near the very front.

Maybe I'm just crying poor because I've got kids birthdays and Xmas and all that shit coming up.

But wow $200. That's nuts. Do you get any drinks package or merch? Or just admission?

I got them just now. Just over $300 for the two tickets with all the processing and handling fees. Thought I missed out as I'm at work and customers came in just before ticket sales went live and by the time I logged on I was in the queue for 30mins.

Scalping is still legal in the US, so it's mission impossible to buy them before the bots get in and buy out any decent show... then you pay 2-10 more to the bot owners to get the tickets. Fucking criminal enterprise.

Fortunately they banned that in Aus. Your authentic ticket a name on it and can't be used without ID that matches that name.

I would have thought they would be more expensive since Aussie things tend to be 50% higher than Yank things, on average.  Given the timeline though Tool may not be doing concerts much anymore.  Maybe when they’re old like the Stones but you never know so in my mind if it’s something you really want to see $300 is worth it.  As long as you can still make rent without any back alley bj’s then $300 is hella worth the experience/memory.

I would pay a hefty price to see Slash.  There’s really no other musician I can think of that could penetrate my wallets anus to such a degree so without it even being a reality I admit that I would pay something that everyone else would be like, :whattefuck2:

...and then if I could get a fist bump and him to autograph my framed copy of Reptiles Magazine where he’s on the cover and they interview him, I would scream like those old Beatle’s chicks back in the 60’s.. :mygoditsfullofstars:  :girlishjoy:

You're a GnR fan? Like his "solo" stuff? Guitar geek? Just curious why Mr. Hudson is such a big name for you. Don't get me wrong I think he's awesome. You know a Slash solo when you hear it. I used to rock the hell out of some Snakepit and that first solo album but it's been a minute

I became a fan when Appetite dropped and have been watching what he’s been up too since.  It’s just a matter of his style being what sounds good to me.  I really like how he do what he do + I was a kid when I first listened to him so there’s that matter of star struck legend to him that now days if I hear someone I like I know it’s just a dude that puts his (or her) pants on one leg at a time etc, but Slash still has some of that bigger than life superhero factor..

For sure dude. He's a 'rock God' in all respects. Just curious. I'd love to see Slash myself. It's a shame he had to work with Axl so early in his career, even if they made some good music

I can't believe there is no technology that can stop bots buying tickets. Pretty sure there is collusion between ticketmaster and third party sellers too. Like some tickets are never available to the public. Forcing it all to be in your own name and only you can use the ticket with ID is a great idea.

I’m pretty sure there was a big story about that a few years back where they got in trouble for holding back choice tickets and then scalping them when the others had sold out.

Here’s something..
https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2018/09/ticketmaster-is-scalping-and-reselling-its-own-tic.html

There’s a Joe Rogan podcast where I think it may be Joe Perry or Steven Tyler where they go into all these ways that venues and promoters rip off artists and the audience through different methods.  It’s really interesting all the angles people are gaming the system.  There might be isolated clips of it on youtube but I think it’s the Steven Tyler interview.

Dude, it’s crazy.  I read an article about this a while ago that explained how basically every music venue that can accommodate more than, say 1500 people (I forget the exact number) is owned by one of two or three parent companies.  So if you’re in a successful band and trying to tour in America, there’s no way to play shows without paying Ticketmaster or iheartmedia.  They hella collude, gouge, scalp their own tickets, etc.  Basically, live music is one of the biggest monopolies in the country.  It’s pretty fucked.

Yes dennings is right weve fought this for years but stupid mouth breathers either dont care or dont get it so they're just allowed by everyone to get away with it. Dont look for it to change as trump has lit annihilated the department of consumer protection and cut the balls off the FTC (huge surprise). Any way those are actually extremely cheap prices for an redic popular international act coming off a hot new album everyone is abuzz about. It would be like trying to go see rodger waters or something.

300 a ticket for Fleetwood Mac. Great seats

170 a ticket for dead & Company second level

Those Oz tickets aren’t that bad compared to US prices. But yeah tickets are expensive I can’t disagree with you on that

I heard tool sucks live anyway. Their songs could be insane jam vehicles but instead of having the balls to perform live improv like true musicians they opt instead to play cookie cutter choreographed sets. It's really frustrating to me it's so popular as a live concert that people are willing to shell out thousands for a ticket for a few hours of lazy musicianship. Let's be honest all their songs sound the exact same anyway and they really haven't grown musically at all or gone anywhere with it in thier entire career. Just goes to show I suppose. I recommend spending that same money on nice hifi equipment and listening to the albums at home. You might be disappointed live honestly.

Yeah wow. Really thought we were getting overpriced compared to the states but lots of good points. Certainly agree on musicians needing to make money now that actual physical albums are not something you can hold in your hand.

Tickets for this show are only going to be printed and mailed out. No print at home or digital tickets are being released. Good way to limit the second hand selling. It will still happen. But it's a interesting stand they are making on how they want their tickets released.

There's certainly the levels of industry promoters and venue owners and all that which need to get paid. Just seems like everyone's cut is getting bigger which means we end up paying more and more.

I guess I'm just comparing prices to the last time I seen tool. The 10000 day tour I think I paid just under $100 a ticket. And the laterulus tour would have been like $60 or $70. It was a while ago.

Tool shows are amazing though. It's more than just a few songs on a setlist. Just like their albums. You can skip to a song but when you listen from start to finish they always seem to make a complete album into a journey.

Chief. Some people write pretty good stuff and dont improv. I get liking folks who improv but come on.
