Shoebox troubles

Hey everyone. So this is my first time doing agar to grain to bulk coir.
I'm on day 7 since I made the 4 shoe boxes. I'm noticing that it is not really colonizing the coir. Also I'm seeing yellow liquid spots. I assume metabolites but this is like puddles of it.
I've never had a grow contam before at least getting a first flush using brf pf tek to bulk coir. Agar/grains is giving me problems. It also seems like it colonizes way slower.
Anywho, thoughts on how these are looking?

One with yellow wet spots. It's not in the myc just like sitting on top.

First picture looks super dry. Unless your lighting is making the coir look really light?
Don’t see any moisture beading up in the photos, is there moisture beads on the surface in real life?
Might need a heavy misting or some way to add moisture back in. I haven’t figured the best way to do that yet tho...

I'm really trying to wait until it's colonized fully before misting. It is looking dry on the surface so I will probably mist today.

Looks fully colonized and fully suffocated to me🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, that’s metabolites. But, in a tub, mushroom piss doesn’t necessarily indicate bacteria.

The top looks colonized but the sides looks like 60%. Idk. I went ahead and misted them and then also flipped the lids to help dry up the water pooling around the sides. That will take care of the FAE, surface, and pooling hopefully.

A wise move, if you ask me. Looking forward to that glistening wet pin porn

I’ve had two tubs stop colonizing at what looked like 80% when they started knotting up instead.
Just for fun here’s what mine look like 15 days in. Had to take them out cuz I massively screwed up the surface conditions. The furthest one is flipped upside down so what you see used to be the bottom of the shoebox. It’s perfectly molded with the ridges and everything.

They feel about the weight of my 2nd flush after the first soak. They definitely have a ton of moisture inside. It's just the surface that was dry. The sides are wet af.

I suppose if it's got enough moisture then let it ride. I don't like misting subs, usually fucks up the surface IME.

You don't mist subs at all?

That’s ridiculous. If the surface gets dry, you mist. There’s literally nothing else you can do about it and it’s not harmful in any way, as long as you don’t mist downward and use a fine mister.

Typically I don't have to mist subs. Should be set and forget. I'm saying if there's enough moisture and it's fully colonized then it likely doesn't need to be forced into fuiting, but if you think it's not got enough moisture mist it. Maybe it's more aesthetics, but when I mist it usually just gets that lame ass matted look. Besides, if I feel the need to mist I've probably fucked up already.
As for not misting downward that's kind of ridiculous. Either your trying to put so little water on it that there's no real function or you mist enough that it adds up anyway. As Bod has pointed out they naturally live outside and fruut after rainstorms. They literally get rained on and the flush. Perhaps some TC knowledge could be of assistance.

From what I read, spraying directly downward stuns knots and pins. But I agree that once you have your tek down, it should be set and forget. My info may be outdated though. Did most of my learning years ago.

Yeah it wasn't too long ago I read Bod talk about it. If your sub is already knotting then it's happy enough to leave alone. If it's pinning, but shrunken to to moisture then a bottom water might be best.

misting doesnt stunt pins unless you drench them. if you need to mist, mist.

I generally always have to do 1 misting before pinning. The surface never generates enough beads of water for my liking. If it dries again, then reduce the FAE.

It's amazing to me how much slower it is to grow doing agar and grains compared to brf.
So someone give me some guidance please. Should I mist? Snap the lid on and forget about them? flip the lid? To me it looks like it's not colonizing the coir all the way.

Nah it’s fully colonized, time to flip that lid. I’d listen to the mushboy regarding the rest 😉
