We're gonna run out of oxygen before we run out of fossil fuels.

Don;t worry about coal and oil, we got plenty to burn. Using current technology, we have access to enough fossil fuels to get the atmospheric concentration of CO2 to 0.5-1%, minimum.

Which just happens to be toxic to life as we know it.

There is an age requirement to even look at the shroomery. It has nothing to do with posting.
For that there should be some kind of cognitive ability test.

The bushfire's started burning here the second week of Autumn.
Rain forest's that usually halt the fires burned.

Sydney saw 'Catastrophic' bushfire conditions last week. Imagine no rain for months, the bush as dry as it's ever been, low humidity, and up to 100km winds.
Any fire taking hold would simply be impossible to extinguish and the embers aren't landing 1-2km in front of the fire they are landing up to 10km from the fire front.

There would be few people on the east coast of Australia that haven't had a bushfire burning within 100km of their house in the last 2 months.
Former and current fire fighters say the fire seasons are definately starting earlier and are more severe.

Yet, the debate turns nasty as soon as anyone dares links the dryer conditions to climate change.
The right wing fucking-know-it-alls on Sky(Aus Fox) News just cannot stop with the climate change denial and ridicule.

And it's not even summer yet.

That's bizarre, you couldn't get 2 news reports further apart when compared with the one below. (* by the way, the Deputy P.M.'s comments regarding 'woke inner city greenies' pushed about 10 million people's buttons, whoops!)

Check this out, Chris Kenny, I found this searching through Andrew Bolt's rubbish on Sky, he's just as bad.
As always the gold is in the comments section on YouTube, have a read of the comments of the audience they pander to.

Right on.  I thought it was much higher, googled it (I know, I know) and Googler told me otherwise

I did too. I assumed you had to get to a couple percent before it was dangerous. I recall one of the Apollo missions had a failure of the CO2 scrubber and levels got pretty high.

I don’t think toxic levels of CO2 are an actual threat through, and within reason increased CO2 means increased O2 output from plants. It’s pretty well established that many plants, especially trees, actually benefit from higher CO2 levels at least to around 600 ppm

Surely we'll cook long before it gets to toxic levels, right?

I think a lot of plants start dying around 2000ppm, which is a mere 0.2%.  That would be a killer.  If the plants died.

Anyways, it looks like we are going to go through the ringer here.  It's looking less and less likely that we will be able to avert this, deal with this, be responsible stewards of the earth like we are supposed to be.

No, instead we are going to wreck the planet.

I would feel slightly less bad about it if we had all got our kicks in before the whole shithouse goes up in flames, but, the destruction of the earth is being carried out for the pleasure of a very small percentage of the population, who profit from all this fossil fuel usage and are powerful members of society because of their wealth.  The rest of us got to drive back and forth to work.

Just out of curiosity, what other choice do we have?

"profit from all this fossil fuel usage"

The Elite will profit from any form of energy usage.

I really don't get why you're getting so hysteria here, there is no conspiracy to destroy the planet with using fossil fuels. Nobody if forcing the world to use cheap energy, it's economically inevitable until something better comes along.

I really don’t think we should be leaving the fate of the climate to market forces. Not everything can be solved that way.

We're talking about global commodities here, I highly doubt China or India are going to put themselves at a competitive disadvantage for climate change, not gonna happen.

The problem for people calling for the destruction of the Earth is that the vast majority of humans aren't buying into it.  They're going to need to see at least some destruction affecting the developed world, so far it's not there.

So we need to see the destruction before we do anything about it?

Nuclear weapons aren’t a problem because we’ve never been nuked.

Beside the fact that we are seeing increased destruction: worse droughts leading to crop failures and more fire fuel; worse fire seasons in many parts of the globe; stronger hurricanes and super typhoons making landfall; sea levels rising causing flood losses in what would have been normal tides just a decade ago

etc

I'm not sure if CO2 levels have any significance. Terrestrial plants can tolerate high CO2 levels but the greatest sink for atmospheric CO2 is the ocean.

LOTS of photosynthesis happening in the ocean.

However, too much co2 in the ocean leads to an acidic condition that wipes out every creature in the ocean which lives in a shell.  When shellfish collapse so does the oceanic food chain.

The know-nothing Republicans in NC actually passed legislation that makes the state legislature unable to consider real science, such as ocean level rise, when putting together and proposing new laws like oceanfront zoning, etc.

here is an article about it.
