Event Horizon is one of my favorite movies

I think that if you skip the "Ow my god thats the funky shit" sample the track is actually quite dystopian and robotic sounding. In that regard it would be a good match.

Also the movie itself is shot in a cool/hip way and although very dark not too serious (with Fishburne smoking on a spaceship) it does match well with a track from a popular group of that time

Also The Prodigy

Thanks man, I really appreciate hearing from you on this!  I think you might be right, I wonder how I’d feel about it if the Beastie Boys sample had been edited out.  Guess we’ll never know, though.

I like Event Horizon a lot too.  Recently read an article that spoke about how an earlier cut of it was much longer, more in depth, and much much gorier & more graphic.  Some suit higher up (maybe the distributor? I forget) saw that the violent cut was distressing audiences a lot & had the director dial it back a lot.  There may or may not be a tape of this version still in existence- it’d be awesome if we one day get a complete director’s cut of Event Horizon.  I’m real interested to see that.

Yes, hello.  Back in 2017 (I think) fellow shroomerite PatrickKn introduced me to the music of Israeli producer Alon Mor, and I really loved his album ‘Long Awaited Journey’.  Last week, Mor released a new album called ‘Lands of Delight’.  I’ve listened to it several times since it came out, and I really dig it.  It’s shorter than Journey (more of an EP than an LP, imo), but just as adventurous and explosive.  Really well made music that’s both complicated and easy to feel.  Just a ton of emotion in these songs, and the whole thing is better than any individual part.  The songs are good on their own, but the release is real cinematic and I think it’s best consumed as a unit.  Below is the lead single.

Alon Mor- Echoes Follow

If you like this, I’d recommend listening to all of Lands of Delight in one sitting.  And check out Long Awaited Journey while you’re at it.

I first became aware of Flume in like 2014, I think.  He’s an Australian who was making trap music.  His stuff wasn’t bad, but back then I was getting real sick of formulaic trap music and his songs felt pretty cookie cutter to me. Decently made, but nothing impressive.

Then earlier this year, I was reading a ton of buzz about the new Flume album.  I ignored it for a while, thinking it was just more standard trap.  Finally I decided to check it out, see what the hype was about, and I was real impressed.  This album is very far from formulaic, and I think it shows a lot of artistic maturity and growth.  I don’t even know if I’d consider it to be trap music at this point- it’s very experimental, and while it’s definitely bass culture music, most of the songs don’t have a lot in common with what people call trap.  They do have the vibe and swagger of trap, but there’s a lot of new ideas and creative takes put forth here.

Also, Flume did a clever thing in releasing the album as a mixtape.  He made the songs (some of them collabs with other producers/vocalists), and then blended them together.  The effect is that instead of 12-15 individually wrapped slices of music, we just get a big ol’ chunk of beats, where it’s sometimes tough at first to tell where one song stops and another begins.  That wouldn’t work well with all albums, but it’s definitely a bonus here.  I recommend this one if you like trap/bass music/experimental or even IDM.

Flume- Hi This Is Flume

I love Tritonal. One of my favorite artists. Justin Caruso made some magic with that Tritonal remix :yesnod:

Found this awesome new Tech-House Remix of Morgan Page yesterday. Definitely bringing this track to the Summer Festivals on a portable music player.
