The best way for mixing the substrate is:

1. Put vermiculite in a bowl
2. Add water, mix well
3. Add rice flour, mix well.

Thisw way you won?t get any clumps.


Which formula and how much water have you been using?

hey thanx for replying

i used the mmgg recipy, what I really need to know though is will it work

it looks alright i guess, except for the fact that there are small clumps of rice flour all over the place, will it affect the nutrient absorbtion at all??

to summarize everything up should I innculate it or not?

in my opinion, i would open the jars back up, break up the clumps, mix some more vermiculite and BRF in with it to make the mixture a little drier so it doesnt stick together. then if necessary, mix in some more water. then re-steralize. it may take you an extra couple hours or so to do all this, but in the end i think it may be worth it. just my two cents.

YEMushrooms, I don?t thing this is a good idea. Have you ever experienced the consistency of a cooked PF cake - it?s a sticky, clumpy mess if you try to break it up.
The small clumps of rice won?t do any harm, as long there is also rice flower arround the vermiculite particles.

thanx for replying I'll try the cakes as they are. I should be recieving spore syringes from spore labs shortly. Actually how long would it take for syringes to get from BC to AB (neighbouring provinces in Canada) about 4-5 days? anyways thanx for your help
