yeah I did see that message also in the linked thread at git. I figure that's most likely the problem, but there are some replies below of people saying they've tried several different numbers on major carriers with no luck
Still going to assume its the VOIP in my case

you have one of many phone numbers on a given network... if a spammer has the range of numbers for whatever network, they can just spam all of them randomly
i also had an android from a chinese manufacturer once that came factory installed with a kind of spyware that allowed spam txts to come through.. but what was crazy is they came through as system notifications rather than regular txts and i couldn't clear them without restarting the phone. It was impossible to disable these because the phone was designed with the spyware built into the firmware, and there were no alternate firmwares available for the phone. Basically the phone was intentionally made spam-able by this Chinese manufacturer ... (BLU was the company, they are a fairly large budget android phone brand)

Doesn't stellar have a huge supply, like 40 billion or something vs. bitcoins 21 million?
Not to say it won't grow, but I doubt it'll reach $1+ unless it becomes hugely adopted. I guess that's always possible.
Kinda shitty but the website doesn't allow you to use a canada SMS number to verify so I can't participate.

I got in on Asantes first thread, when you needed a github or hackernews account to get it, I got in early before you needed to supply a phone number, now I hear they are excluding canadians for some reason, so im lucky I got in

You won't be, just unsubscribe your VOiP phone # so only the mobile network provider's no. remains.

So you can't use a github account to do it any more if you are in Canada?

I dont think you can, people were trying to hack github and hackernews accounts, so they scrapped that requirement

The requirement now is a mobile phone number verification via txt. If you have a Canadian phone # it won't be accepted.

its already been covered a few times in this thread... because they were flooded with fake accounts to cash in on the free drops, and initially many of the fake accounts were coming from Canada. Any country where these fake accounts were sourced to is excluded from future drops, for now anyway
