Duracraft Whispermist/ coolmist humidifier
    #2630131 - 05/03/04 01:42 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I'm having a bit of trouble getting the Rh above 85-86% using this humidifier. I thought it was working quite well, being that the house's Rh is only around 40%. The humidifier is connected to a 30 gallon (or so) sterilite bin by a foot and a half of vinyl tubing. My question is: Has anyone used this humidifier with better success? If so how? Also..does anyone know of a way to increase the air flow coming out of this humidifier, either by attaching a computer fan or somehow increasing the speed of the fan inside of it?

Thanks to all,
Your shroomery Newbie

It's very rare that a cool mist can handle the job by itself. I like to use both a cool mist for airexchange and a ultrasonic every few hours to handle keeping the rh up.

I agree with magash, the coolmist is really only good for air exchange. IMO, it is loud and a possible vector for contamination growth (I have seen black mold on the inside of one, and it was very hard to clean). Try keeping it full of water, and the output to the fruiter as strait as possible. Perhaps install an additional filter above the other to restrict airflow in (thus slowing throughput of the air, allowing greater humidification). Use a large diameter output hose (5/8" at least), and possibly install dual outputs by drilling new holes. All this combined can allow for a true "mist" output that should allow plenty of humidity for cakes.

Or get an ultrasonic and save yourself the noise, time, and effort of making that P.O.S. perform adequately. They work much better...

BTW magash, I have that exact same closet organizer, with shelves also made out of PVC, and hardware cloth... Did you upgrade from the PMP?

(bad shot but id rather not take a pic of it now , it was the little zipper flap in the corner that gave it away.)

Thanks, I appreciate the help. I'll have to see about a ultra-sonic then. The only good thing I guess is that this thing I'm using now is super quiet, barely makes a peep.

thanks again

Yep, needed more space. I changed the shelfs. I had a fridge go down so I took out the rubber coated shelfs and used those.

I like to get funky with the lights too. One on top and one behind.
