This is my first season hunting. I am not the most experienced but I'm eager to learn. I'm requesting help with identification of some beautiful friends I found. Please see below details:
Habitat: Grass, pinestraw, edge of forest, next to paved walking trail. North Georgia 30 mins north of Atlanta.
What does it grow on? Growing in the grass, dirt/mud, pinestraw, sweetgum leaves.
Gills: Adnate for the most part. Maybe slightly annexed. The color is light tan. Some of the younger ones have a partial veil.
Stem: 1.25" for the longest stem. Stems are a white-tan color. Hollow stem. Stem that was detached for spore printing showing dark bruising after 24h. The stipes are bare.
Cap: At first they were dark brown. Now they are a light brown almost greenish tint. They are convex/umbonate some with a nipple shape. The younger ones are somewhat conic. The size is 1.25" for the biggest one. About 7cm for the smallest.
Spore print color: Dark brown color but not only brown. They seem to have a purple tint though. Maybe a purplish brown color. It's hard to tell if its purple in there or just brown. Kind of looks black too.
Bruising: At first they were not bruising. After 24h the stem is showing a blackish/possibly bluish bruising. Not all the stems show signs of bruising.
Other information: The top of the umbonate caps are dark nipples fading into a light brown and then darker around the outer edge.
They grew in the same location - some but not all cespitose. The trail was wet after heavy rains. A lot of dead wood and other types of mushrooms seen along the way. Sweetgum trees and Loblolly Pines on the edges of the trail.
At first I did not think they were what I was looking for (weilii) however now they are starting to look like it. I was even going to throw them away - I hope that you forgive me for that.
Please let me know if you have any questions to aid the identification and I will happily help as best as I can.
