ok, considering the jars aren't contaminated as per this post:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1

do these pics suggest that they're ready to birth, and if not, when should it be done? Is there any harm in waiting too long?

An yes - anxiousness is playing a major part inthis post

Oh yeah, they look like they should start having contractions any minute now!! Seriously though, it looks like they are ready to go to me. If they just completed today you might want to wait another day or few just to let them get a little more filled in. Most people suggest doing that and I believe it is because, being that the lack of nutrients is one of the key elements of triggering pinning, you want to let them munch on that brf really good so when you light them up they will pin faster.

They look fine to me.

Well, that depends on how long. A few months after full colonization would weaken the mycelium allowing for possible contamination after birth. A few days or weeks after will just allow the mycelium to digest the substrate and mature (two essential requirements for fruiting).

It looks about ready to birth, however you may want to give it another day to ensure complete colonization. Also, is it possible you are getting pins at the bottom of your cakes? [image]C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\jar.jpg[/image]
